**** I remember that...around 2002 I reckon. Hot dogs were a dollar too.

Isn't it a massive indictment on society that we couldn't have that now, even for one day a season. ****, my old man used to take a chilly bin of 12 swappa bottles to an international game, on a grass bank/terraces and no one blinked...now I gotta pay $12 for a Pals in a fully seated heartless stadia
But players like Bruce Edgar, John F Reid and Glenn Turner missed tours and seasons because they needed real jobs because they weren't getting a cut from his swap-a-crate.

I'll never understand it ... cheaper tickets and food and drinks, fill the grounds up, looks better on tv, better for the players, grows the strength of the various sports. I think the Warriors have done something along those lines and look at them this season.

A lot of sporting events in NZ it feels like you're being screened before being thrown into a prison cell. Treating the crowd as badly as possible and ripping them off to the maximum extent is hardly going to get the crowds in.

Ironically (I think). When I used to pass Basin Reserve on my walk home form work (over a decade ago now), with free entry / public pathway around the ground during all but international games. The most regular attendees were the drunk eccentrics (presumably unemployed) who would hang around the Wakefield memorial with their cartons of beer.

Tbf, they knew their cricket and their players. Weren't shy with a loud bit of shouted advice for Bell, Woodcock et al.

Another reason for the greatness of the Basin. Pop out at the lunch break to Regional Wines & Spirits, grab a couple of decent beers and head up the hill to the park for beers and cricket before hearing the cheer for the post-lunch session and heading back down to the game. Pretty sure I watched a Plunket Shield game there pre-COVID (2018? 2019?) having brought a couple of beers from RWS and no one batted an eyelid. Probably a risky strategy from meself there.

Is Ollie White a nepo baby? Or does he genuinely have some ability a la Will Sutherland.

Yeah, can't say I know much about him.

Muller's also been pretty impressive in an otherwise meek bowling attack.
