Hamish Marshall scores 1 & 133 in Gloucestershire's recently completed game. Good to see him still taking advantage of his form.

that's now 5 centuries and at this rate he should easily crack 1000 runs..touch wood.

He has almost doubled his number of FC centuries in one season of County cricket so he's going well, not to mention the fact that he missed a number of games through injury.

To be honest, when you see Nathan Astle playing for poorly for Lanc's, you've got to wonder whether Astle will be struggling to make the side right now. He took it pretty hard last time when he was dropped, but the selectors won't be happy at all with his current County form.

Yeah, I think astle's time in the test side might be coming to a close. When you consider we play two tests in the next god knows how many years. he might play those two and then that will be it.

Marshall's form is very impressive and I wonder how much the NZ selectors actually look at county cricket results. For my money, Marshall simply can't be left out of the test side(pity we dont have one). One dayers??????????

Mal Loye was quoted in the paper today saying he has an offer to play FC cricket in NZ this year and will make a decision within the week. Anyone know which side it is?

Englefield not returning to Central's then..he got offerd a new contract and refused, a pitty if you ask me ! he felt outdone by New Zealand 'A' because he didn't get selected again.
he decided to give up cricket and find a job, and do some education..probably wise-ish.
Loye to Otago would be cool :o

Yep it'll be Otago. Considering he is close to ODI selection in England, it would be a good move for him to come down to NZ and continue playing cricket in case an injury comes up during the VB Series or so that the selectors can see that he's scoring runs.

That would be really good if Otago could secure the services of Mal Loye, god knows we need someone with some experience and talent. Pity we lost Jonathon Trott really because he provided another very good bowling option.

Does Astle still stand any chance of making the New Zealand World Cup squad? I guess if they take him it would be based on what he has done in the past. Still I would like to see him play in a few more ODIs just to get to 100 ODI wickets (if he hasn't got there now).

I think he probably still does Craig, mainly due to his performances after he had been dropped last season, scoring an unbeaten 100 and 3 other scores over 80. But I would like to see some of the young talent come through like Ryder and Taylor and let them have a chance.

I dont actually know anything about Mal Loye but I heard Auckland were close to signing an English batsman that was close to international selection........maybe I am wrong. I saw it on nzherald online. They didnt mention the guys name..

Martin Guptill is a really good prospect, but he needs time to develop. Auckland should also promote U19 fast bowler Dean Bartlett because he is extremely quick. Because quite frankly im sick of them rolling out guys like Tama Canning to open the bowling, this is no good for New Zealand cricket!

Couldn't agree more Tim, about time our domestic sides play 6 batsman, 1 wicket-keeper, and 4 bowlers, rather than the 3 batsman, 4 bits and peices all-rounders, a wicket-keeper and four bowlers the likes of the North Island domestic teams are doing.

I agree, though to be fair I think in the last few years that team structure has become less dominant. The worst offenders now would probably be Auckland and ND. It drives me nuts seeing nothing players like Tama Canning and Joseph Yovich batting in the top 5 and bowling first change (or even opening). It's no coincidence that the teams that have performed the best in the last few years have been those with the specialists - compare say Canterbury or Central's lineups to ND's and its obvious why we (ND) are getting flogged every time.

Related to Gary Bartlett? Good fast bowling genes if so :)
