'tis within in your link SJS

his highest first class score is 116 - he did it twice - first time for Glamorgan v Lancs and second time for Lancs v Glamorgan - a beautiful symmetry!

as a small(ish) child I would regale all visitors to our household with this fascinating piece of trivia - can't recall how old I was but clearly before the age when you understand that sometimes folk will feign interest just to humour you!

Haha, I was too quick for you there was I?

I thought it was Brierley who only played 49 games, contrary to what you told me earlier - I've got it now.

OK, I've worked out who this was now - Frank Parr, who played in a jazz band I believe, which at the time was held as evidence of moral deficiency. Apparently Cyril Washbrook was instrumental in his failing to get another county contract, even after he'd left Lancashire, which seems incredibly petty and vindictive to me.

Yes, I read it in 'The Way it was' in TWC last year I think.

About to hand over control of laptop but I have a couple of questions in mind, so I may get to post one of 'em later.

Just a quick one for starters; shouldn't take you too long to work it out.

Which cricketer, who represented an English county last season, appeared in a first-class match against a touring side in 1985?

Just occurred to me that there could be more than one answer to this, so I'll add that this player only played three f-c matches in his career (to rule out the likes of Kim Barnett).

No, there were two touring sides that year (although only one played in Tests) - this was the other lot.
So Im guessing Zim. Which if is the case then this player most likely played against Hick (who was obviously active this season as well).

A nice symmetry to the question :)
