Did they all hold the record for 'most wickets taken in Test cricket' at some point?

Briggs was first to 100 I believe.

Q3. It is a Test bowling record?..... Yes. - with a qualification - Well it is in tests and it is about bowling. Its not a record in the sense that their are four of them them. Its like, they are the four on top of that list shall we say ?

Is it average-related? I know that Briggs and Lohmann picked up some ridiculously cheap wickets against South Africa in their early Tests.

If no, is it to do with Tests v South Africa in general?

Given the reputations of Lindwall and Statham for bowling straight and that the other two played under the old LBW law is it the greatest % of wickets taken by knocking the batsman's castle over?

Okay we will give it to you. These four are bowlers , from those who have taken at least 100 Test wickets, who have 40% or more of their victims clean bowled.

  • Lohmann : 44.8
  • Briggs : 44.1
  • Lindwall 43.0
  • Statham : 40.5.

Actually there is a fifth too, Turner who has 41.6% of his 101 victims clean bowled.

Your turn.
