I presume from the wording of the questopn that the batting record is a career record. You need to answer this only if my assumption is incorrect :)

Is the bowling record related to getting wickets in an innings?

Is the bowling record a first class record?

Did you make your test debut after WW2

Q4. I presume from the wording of the questopn that the batting record is a career record. You need to answer this only if my assumption is incorrect :)

No it relates to a single innings

Q5. Is the bowling record related to getting wickets in an innings?

No (although it's not quite that clearcut) - it is not a record as the feat has been achieved many times but there are some background circumstances that make it remarkable (bizarre might be a better word than remarkable)

Q6. Is the bowling record a first class record?

See above - No but I would be surprised if the overall situation were not unique

Q7. Did you make your test debut after WW2

Yes

Q10. Are you from the sub continent?

No

Q11. Are you an opening batsman?

Small clue - not in his first or last test but as far as I can see yes for just about every one in between

I believe he was batting at 3 in both innings of his first test - thats certainly what it looks like from the scorecard

McGlew who had the highest score by a South African (255 not out in March 1993) till it was broken on my 20th birthday by Graeme Pollock :)

Indeed he is the man
As for his bowling achievements I can think of his topping the South African tourists bowling averages in England in 1951 with 1 wicket for five runs and the domestic bowling averages in 1955-56 with 1 wicket for three runs :)

Actually that wasn't the batting record I had in mind - nor the bowling one either - my question is still alive! ............................albeit a little poorly
