International Coach
Hit for a six off the first ball he bowled in the next innings?

Or is it hit for six off the first ball of his second over?

- Has the second part of the answer to do with his bowling?
- If yes, does it have to do with his bowling in the same inings?
- Is it something Illingworth would be proud of ?

PS : Is anyone counting the questions asked (This query is not to be counted :) )

What was unusual about Richard Illingworth's contribution to the 1991 England v West Indies series?

1)Serious question though: Was it to do with his father being a selector at the time? No
2)was it to do with his bowling? Yes
3)Is it that he took a wkt with his first ball in test cricket?
No - that's not what makes his contribution unusual, but the fact that he took a wicket with that delivery is part of the answer
4)does it have anything to do with his batting "ability"? No
---------------------------
clue
If God ordained that his first ball should take a wicket, what would the devil do to even up the score?
---------------------------
5)Be given not out when the next ball was plumb? No
6)Get a wkt with 1st ball, hit for a 4 or 6 from his 2nd Ball???? No
7)Err, he took a wicket with his first ball of his test career, an the last in that match? No
8)I know, the 2nd ball was dropped. No
9)He took a wkt with his 1st ball he bolwed and he hit a 4 with the first ball he faced?
No - someone earlier asked if his batting was involved and it isn't.
10)Hit for a six off the first ball he bowled in the next innings? No
Or is it hit for six off the first ball of his second over? No
11)- Has the second part of the answer to do with his bowling? Yes

12)He was hit for a boundary off his first ODI delivery and a wicket with his first test delivery? No - the question and answer relates only to the 1991 Test series v West Indies
---------------------------------------------
Clue
The closest answers so far are those which mention being hit for 6

Was it mentioned it was just the test series?

Was he hit for six of the last ball he bowled in the series?

Correct.
He took a wicket with his first ball of the series and was hit for 6 with his last. For a long time this looked like being his first and last balls in Test Cricket and the question was a regular in quizzes. It was spoilt when he was surprisingly recalled a few years later.

I only played one Test in my career and my debut innings saw me dismissed in rather bizarre circumstances. Who am I?

I thought the person who got the answer right was supposed to ask the next question.

Seriously though, I'm sure Archie doesn't mind me stepping in. It's good to keep things flowing. If he really cares, he can take my turn next time I get one right.

1. Am I white (colour of skin)
2. If not, am I from an Asian country?
