Correct . It is John Paul Getty junior or otherwise known as JP II . (or commonly as Paul Getty). He did own Wisden . It was Mick Jagger who introduced him to cricket . And he did have a private cricket ground where it was a well known tradition for visiting teams to play a match against Paul Getty selection Team (of county and ex -England and ex-other country players).

For those interested here's a link on Getty - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Getty

Your turn to post question Boy Brumby ! :)
:( I thought of Getty initially but I thought he was a Pom, so I didn't answer.

He was an American who settled in England and took British Citizenship. If you read the link - you'll find that he was given knight hood long before becoming a British Citizen and he could not use it because he was not British, but on taking British Citizenship - he became recognised immediately as Sir Paul Getty.

The link says he was worth 1.6 billion dollars (or was it pounds) when he died !! This despite giving away loads to charity and Art and cricket !!

He inherited his wealth from his Father although I think his Grandfather is the Original Oil tycoon !!

Afraid I have to leave for work now, but will try to log on for a recap & a clue later. :)

Ok, in time-honoured tradition it's time for a recap & a clue. My original question was:

I have a modest test record, but a unique distinction among my fellow countrymen. Who am I & what is my unique distinction?

Q1) Is he English ? No.
Q2) Is the unique distinction related to cricket ? No.
Q3) Is he Australian? Yes.
Q4) Did he play before WW2? No.
Q5) Is the unique distinction involve playing another sport ? No.
Q6) Did he play in the 50s ? No.
Q7) Did he play in the 70s ? Yes.
Q8) Is the distinction related to where he was born ? No.
Q9) Is the distinction related to getting the first wicket in ODI ? No.
Q10) Did he play greater than 10 tests ? No.

First clue: My unique distinction is related to what I am rather than what I've done.

Q11 Is It Dav Whatmore ? ( current Bangladesh coach and previous SL and Lancashire coach)

if not then is it Terry Jenner - because he served a Term in prison ?

( Here's excerpt from his cricinfo profile -"He retired the following season, but hit the headlines in 1988 when he was sent to prison for a white-collar crime." )
