Just to clarify,

Is this a batting record ?

The second one, the slowest triple century is the one i had in mind. The 1st one is also partially correct.

In order not to stall this thread , as is my normal habit and intention always, :D , I am giving the answers in full

- Bob Simpson during his 311 at Old Trafford in the ashes test of 1964.

- The slowest double century in FCC in England(10 hrs and 8 mins)

- The slowest triple century in FCC in England(12 hrs & 33 mins)

- The longest ever innings played in England

These are the three English records.

- No other test captain in the world has scored more runs in a test innings in England.

This ia partly a world record. :p

Your turn Archie

I think, till Gooch's 333, it was the highest by a captain anywhere.

I think this may be a tough one, I am credited with the discovery of Ames.
I once said "there are only three people who know anything about cricket: Archie MacLaren, Charles Fry and myself. I know more than the other two".

Who am I?

Thats a great get SJS, how did you know that, was it the Ames clue?
Yes.

I have done a lot of reading on Ames who I think is the most under rated of all the great keepers the game has seen.

I am surprised that Weigal had such a high opinion of himself. Where did you read that ?

A very good book called 'Great Characters From Cricket's Golden Age' by Jeremy Malies.

It features bios on some great characters including; Coningham, A. Trott, Archie Mac and G. Weigall which was my personel favourite. I have been waiting for him to write another book.
