anwars 194??

Soo many have come close, but never seem to get past it.

There hasnt been a big big ODI century (170+) for a while, and with the ODI game likely to be shortened in the next 10 years or so (inevitible), players would have less overs to get it!!

Another factor is that many of the great batsmen of our age are nearing the end of their careers (lara, tendu, inzi...had to put him there :) )

IMO the ODI double century is one hell of a tough ask, most great batsmen only seem to get one chance to get such a high score.

The likes of jaysuria, ganguly, tendulker, ghilcrist and lara have already got their big 100s and are unlikely to get anywhere near that again!!

Will the ODI double century continue to allude the greats??
Gilchrist scored 170+ just in January: That's not too long ago!!!
and who says jaysuria, ganguly, tendulker, gillchrist and lara wont get other big centuries, they have got them before why not again?

I think this one will be broken. Remember, all it takes is Zimbabwe not to sort out their current malaise or a World Cup match involving USA/Namibia/Canada combined with a lot of luck to one of the games big hitters.

Hell, it could be Shahid Afridi if he lasts 74 balls :D

I believe Hanif Mohammed (or one of the Mohammed clan) of Pakistan made his Test debut at 15 years of age (have no idea about days), will take some beating.

I dont think even Zibabwe will pick a player do that.
Hasan Raza, 14 years 227 days.

"who says jaysuria, ganguly, tendulker, gillchrist and lara wont get other big centuries, they have got them before why not again"

It just seems as though players only get once chance to make big 100's be it in ODI cricket or Test matches. Not many have struck 2 tripple centuries in test matches.
Players play that 'innings of a lifetime' once and it seems all those guys have done their innings.

very true, kirsten got a big 100 against the uae. But it wont count for me. the double century has to come against a test playing nation to mean anything....heck, im pretty sure i can bag a double century against one of the minnows :) .

"Hell, it could be Shahid Afridi if he lasts 74 balls "

Afridi last 74 balls?? You must b kidding!!

"I can say sehwag might do it"

he seems a good candidate to me, do get a double century in an ODI you have to be a top order batsmen and u have to be a very agressive player. Sehwag fits both these criterion, but he does seem the type who takes one too many risks...and that may mean that he wont b able to hold out for that long (unless of course, pakistan are fielding!)

peace :)

Ok, this may raise a few eyebrows, but I believe that Australia's record of consecutive Tests and ODIs win won't ever be broken. I think it's not possible for any team, present or future, to match that kind of consistency.

No this one will be beaten for sure.

Just think how many time's it has been done in domestic OD cricket now if players like Ally Brown can do it against Glamorgan?? then somone like Gilchrist could do it against Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, etc..

I think the opertunity has passed a few Players Tnedulkar is no longer a canditade he's just not that sort of player any more guys like Gilly, Shewag etc.. would be my picks but it could be anyone and will probably be done by somone we dont expect.

Sourav ganguly must have felt like giving the bowlers a good kick up their backside for letting the team down in the WC fianl. :@ I still feel like doing so.

One could forgive zaheer and nehra..But Srinath so experienced, in form, chance to end his career on a high, ball moving around and what does he do? CHOKE! :@
