6. Marshall

Viv, Murali, Hutton incredibly unlucky
Gilly at second is a bit much, how could he be ranked above Khan, Tendulkar, McgRath etc?

(Using the 25 test criterion, an XI)

Hutton* /
Gavaskar /
Sobers / o
Tendulkar /
Richards /
Lara /
Gilchrist + /
Imran o /
Hadlee o /
Marshall o /
Warne o
Good idea, what I'd go for -

Greenidge /
Gavaskar /
Viv /
Lara /
Tendulkar /
Sobers o /
Khan* o /
Gilchrist + /
Akram o /
Murali o /
McGrath o

I was tempted to bring in Lloyd for his batting and captaincy but I couldn't drop Lara/Tendulkar/Sobers.

Also put both Viv and Sobers in their natural batting positions, with the line up alternating left-right as best I could.

A good line-up. I'd have Hutton ahead of Greenidge, Marshall ahead of Akram and, IMO, Warne = Murali

If your criterion is debuted after WWII, Greenidge is a good choice
Played 25 tests in the post WWII era...it's in the first post lol

But yeah, Greenidge was a class opener and perfectly complimentary to someone like Sunny.

It's really any 10 from around 15 names with the likes of Hadlee, Kallis, Lillee, Botham and Jadeja lurking with varying degrees of intent. It would be nice to go back further than 1957 but aside from Hutton there's not a lot of choice from the immediate post war era.

1. Sobers
2. Viv
3. Tendulkar
4. Lara
5. Warne
6. Marshall
7. Imran
8. McGrath
9. Murali
10. Gilchrist

Hutton being the best opener since Hobbs, arguably of all time is a lock for my team.If it’s not any criteria of test then Barry +Hutton.Hutton does have 3rd highest Icc peak rating all time after bradman and smith.
Let’s not forget Hutton was playing with a arm which was shorter than other and had arguably the best technique of all time. surgery left him with a left arm almost two inches shorter than the right.

Apart from Miller, hard to argue those but in which order?

A lot of talk about my lists so let me put my money where my mouth is.
It's difficult in cricket creating a list across all eras as the game and its participants have changed so drastically but the post WWII could be regarded as part of "modern" cricket. I am also limiting this to tests only as a considerable chunk of post WWII cricket took place pre-ODI/T20 era and I do not want to muddy the waters. I may put together a separate post-1975 list for all formats.

There are one major inclusion criteria: a minimum of 25 tests in the time period.

Criteria I keep in mind when ranking: skill set, range of ability, impact on his team, impact on opponents, standing among contemporaries, wickets/run, averages/strike rates, to name a few.

1. Garry Sobers WI
2. Viv Richards WI
3. Sachin Tendulkar IND
4. Imran Khan PAK
5. Muttiah Muralitharan SL
6. Glenn McGrath AUS
7. Wasim Akram PAK
8. Sunil Gavaskar IND
9. Shane Warne AUS
10. Brian Lara WI

If I get the time, I may even post some write ups. But here ya go folks!
Mate, who are you kidding with this list? Where is Bradman? Who is your Keeper?Where is Harvey, Lillee, Marshall etc etc etc I would respectfully suggest you have a total re-think and come up with a list of credible names.

I believe it is meant to be his top 10 players, rather than a playing XI, of people of have played at least 25 Tests post WWII. I think that explains the no Bradman and no keeper.
