Comparison threads about English ARs always leave me stuck between wanting to call all ARs underrated and all English ARs overrated.

Top 5:-
Sobers
Imran
Kallis
Miller
Botham

Not sure whom I can rate higher.
Probably Procter if you want to give FC more importance and ignore Tests, or Faulkner if you are feeling like cricket peaked in Golden age or Hadlee giving primary more focus or Pollock giving primary more focus but less focus the previous case or Warn...... Oh, silly me, almost said that name again.

Looks pretty equal. I don’t have a strong opinion on it.

There are specialist players who have way more impact. Even Sanga and Gilchrist have more impact than Botham.

Let's see.
Imran, Sobers, Bradman, Kallis, Gilchrist, Sangakkara, Marshall, Hadlee, McGrath, Muralitharan,
Steyn, Ambrose, Tendulkar, Richards, Pollock, Lara, Flower, Miller, Ponting, Barnes, O'Riely, Warne

I can name another ten. All these people are Legends in their primary discipline, where they have won matches more times than all rounders doing with any of their disciplines, or ATG primary discipline plus great in secondary discipline.

What does Impact have to do anything with all rounders? If we are talking about impact only, then that would not stay as an AR discussion anymore.

It sounds like something Kyear2 will say and get absolutely angry over on hearing; that some all-rounders can match Bradman.

If someone says that Botham being a top 5 AR is debatable, he should back that up by debating about actual AR's that are better, not by saying impact and then present some specialists that weren't even AR's.
(And I agree that specialists are more impactful than balanced AR's).

Greatness comes from the impact the player makes on the game. Whether they are all rounders or not is immaterial.

don't really think any spinner is a top 5 bowler of all time but Murali got this one.
Yeah

Think it's

Maco, Pigeon, Paddles then Steyn and possibly Ambrose before we get to the two spinners. Ambrose probably can fall ahead or behind though, less sure about that one.
