Tendulkar was punished for deliberately changing the condition of the ball (ball tampering) with a suspended sentence which meant he could no longer be the team cheat who doctors the ball. Dravid took over as ball tamperer until he to was caught deliberately defacing the ball and was fined. I think it is probably Shewag who is the dedicated ball defacer now.koch_cha said:

boys...this is going to get us nowhere, the fact of the matter is, and myself, being a born australian, will tell u perfectly, that when it comes to cricket, MOST australians are as thick as bricks, and wouldnt know if their a*se was on fire. They seem to have very short memories, and on the occasion that they can think back to yesterday, they never seem to ask themselves "what would i say if our own players were in this situation?"
The fact of the matter is that there definately is a big case of double standards going on here. When a player from the subcontinent does something seen as illegal by HALF the world, he is a very bad person, but when someone does something that is seen as one of the gravest crimes to commit in sport, and then is subsequently banned for doing so, he is still seen as "acceptable", because he accepts the sentence.
That is utter tripe, murali has not done anything that wrong, and even crickets governing body is unclear as to whether it is actually illegal, but still hes a criminal to most non-sub-continent ppl.
as for shane warne, something VERY wrong done, BANNED for doing so, ADMITS it, but nah c'mon mate, he's ok......
when an aussie makes a comment against anyone, its alright because he's a well educated individual, but when someone from the subcontinent does it against the western world, he's a downright fool n shouldnt be able to post such tripe??? Need more examples??
Australian captains can do things so un-sporting that they can have the games rules changed, theyre still great though. A sub-continent captain (ganguly, Ranatunga) can do something not seen as wrong anywhere, but he becomes a fat cheat, a good for nuthen piece oh S**t.
Fellas, ok, the sub-continent are the devil as they've PERFECTED the art of cheating, but the westerners r angels, because they ONLY: bet on their own teams to lose, accept money from friends for telling them about the weather n pitch (yeh it's blody hot don't ya think mate, oh n yeh, i shouldrun me lawn mower over that pitch over there hey mate), help affect the course of a game through a very unsporting manner, and take BANNED substances.
so maybe u guys should think twice about the REAL reason why a lot of people hate you guys.

You are correct in saying that there are some "thick" Australian supporters, who would take a shot at anybody (except an Australian) for any reason.
These "double standards" are just a form of competitiveness. Australia is competitive and is so with every country. If there is a reason (eg. dravid ball tampering) to have a light hearted go at a rival nation, then more often than not they will take it.
I live in an Australian-Indian community, and as you know the 2 sides are very competitive, when an issue pops up (eg. Dravid) an Aussie supporter is likely to say Dravid is a cheat (in a competitive manner) and should have been suspended and vice-versa, its just the way it is. It adds that bit of spice and rivalry, which can only be good.
