I feel bad for Ben Kettle. 7 fer with the ball to set up an easy chase, only to be out first ball. Is he a prospect we should keep our ears open to hearing about?
He slipped over and then knocked over by a blinding throw - talk about bad luck

Usually bowls leg spin and instead opened the bowling and went on the rampage with seam up balls going everywhere

Bat for 34 overs to lose chasing 71. lol.

also, Ingeborg Beavers was one of the scorers? What a name.

Might as well bore you all with my exploits once again. Today went well. Other than being called a ****ing cheat by the visiting captain. Alas he apologised but remained adamant he’d hit it when given lbw.

All of the fielders said post match that it was nowhere near bat so I’ll take it. And anyway it is what it is. But if he didn’t hit it then we can put today down as no howlers

Captains both clean bowled to my relief.
Sadly that was often the only dismissal they accepted. I gave one captain lbw and he marked me down so severely it ultimately cost me an Umpire's Award from the Association.
On another occasion I gave a captain out caught behind first ball. After the game he complained, "I swear I never touched it." He backed down when a team-mate showed us the new bat with a tell-tale red mark on the edge.

My tutor/mentor contacted me today. On the ECB pathway my indoor umpiring counts so she’s put me forwards for promotion to Level 5.

Four more promotions and I can start doing county cricket. Give it a few years and you’ll all be complaining about my poor decisions at international level

I’m sure I won’t feel the need to incessantly post about every much I do…but today the away team captain said to me, as his team were on the brink of victory ‘you’ve had a great game ump…got everything right..’

I took it as faint praise with the home team, ie the ones I umpire for, 9 down and needing 20 an over to win. But one of my club’s players came to me in the clubhouse afterwards and said he’d had the same feedback from said captain.

I’m enjoying myself but that feedback really got me buzzing

Had to share this from today. A new batsman comes out. Takes a leg stump guard. Leg spinner is bowling wicket to wicket. First ball, the batsman is as close to the stumps as he can be without treading them. He’s stood in front of all three. The ball literally lodges between his pads halfway up. It was an easier decision than a bowled so obviously the finger goes up.

‘That can’t be out umpire, I took a leg stump guard!!!’

He went off in a right tizz while the fielders were rolling round in hysterics

we have to umpire other grades when we have a bye round and this happens so ****in much, guys who take a leg stump guard who think it makes them immune to lbw's and them immediately steve smith themselves in front of all three when the bowler releases, only to have a big ol sook when u trigger them!! it's nuts!!

I always thought calling it right on the line on lbws was the easy part of umpiring, though it's the thing most people talk about. I'm pretty confident I was getting 90% of those calls right. Being able to tell if it's bat first was always borderline impossible for me though.
