Most charismatic cricketer ever?

salman85

International Debutant
MS Dhoni

I can write a long post explaining why, but I will pass unless someone vehemently disagrees.
Dhoni is the most uncharismatic cricketer EVER.

How can you even call him charismatic?

If he was a Godfather character, you know who he would be? The guy who auditioned for Vito's cat's role and got rejected.

If he was a Star Wars character, you know who he would be?The piece of hair on Chewbecca's right ass cheek.

Calling him charismatic is worse than voting for Dhoni_Fan if he ever runs for President,or not voting for Sehwag_Fan when he runs for International Douchebag.

You Sir,have just lost respect.

Dhoni?

Charismatic?

I suppose you would have us believe that you invented the wheel too?

Don't know about charismatic, but Dhoni is supercool.

The thing I like most about Dhoni is that he does what he thinks is required to be successful, and then doesn't worry about the result. He takes decisions based on his own reasonings, he bats the way he thinks is optimum for a win and then he doesn't care a **** if he loses. He is one of those characters who thinks and then takes decisions, not the other way round. He tries his best for every success, he gets the wanted result more often than not, and if he doesn't get that he loses neither his sleep nor his hair over it. Dhoni lives in the present and in the near future, not in the past or in the far future.

This is supercool and intelligent, and very effective. Charisma? I don't care frankly. Amitabh Bachchan has it.

Wordweb definition:
Noun: Charisma
  1. A personal attractiveness or interestingness that enables you to influence others
  2. (Christianity) an extraordinary power granted by the Holy Spirit
Dhoni satisfies both definitions, specially the second one.

A very interesting way of describing Dhoni.

Cricketer Of The Year
There is another name I want to mention, but I am not sure if it would be well received. I am new to this forum and don't know how the members respond to some controversial names! In a sense, this player polarised cricketing opinions like no one else, but was hugely inspirational at one point in his career. Bearing in mind the period I am talking about, maybe you've already guessed who the player is!
Do you mean Cronje? Because I think it's fair to say he was very charismatic.

Adam Gilchrist and Freddie Flintoff also deserve a mention in this thread.

Yes. In my experience, some cricket fans are extremely sensitive to his name being mentioned. Don't want to ruffle feathers but I was a genuine admirer of the guy at one point of time.

well, he did have a penchant for leather jackets. disqualifies him immediately in my book!

Waqar was box office. Great action, and such wonderful swing. He would mesmerise everyone whenever he bowled. Watching him break toes was a bonus.

Also loved watching Donald. He was the first cricketer I ever liked watching.

btw Would Afridi be classed as Charismatic?

+1

BTW, why do you use this font? :)
Lol! I just like to break the monotony when reading on the screen. Besides, there is a good reason so many font types are provided here! :)

Lance Klusener was always amazing to watch too. He made one dayers even more exciting than what they were back then, if only we had players like him in todays game.
Top shout! Cannot believe I forgot to mention him. Really, one of the greatest crowd-pullers ever.

Never have been an Afridi lover, tbh. Too crass for my liking, I guess. In that hard-hitter + useful bowler mould, Razzaq was the guy I most admired in that team.

Waqar was pure box-office. I second that sentiment and I have already described my infatuaton with Allan Donald!

afridi? afride so.

reminds me of a brilliant one that a wag on the erstwhile bbc forums came up with about 5 years ago. when england and pak were going hammer and tongs at each other and the inevitable all rounder comparisons were making the rounds

"our freddie is better than afridi"

back on topic, also majid khan.

regarding defining charisma, may i suggest another definition: a player's potential to get the largest number of people to commit tonsorial harakiri. compton being the first recognized culprit.
