Atapattu and Richardson are complete opposites IMO - about the only thing they've got in common is slowness of scorng.

Atapattu's a complete natural and rarely plays an ugly stroke for me, while Richardson is a tailender who found-out he could actually bat semi-decently in his mid-20s, but could not discover any style whatsoever.
I didn't say they had the same style -- I just think they're both pretty boring players to watch. Maybe I've been watching the wrong innings, but I really don't enjoy watching Atapattu bat...apart from the "he scores 200, Sri Lanka win" aspect :)

:-O:no: I can't believe I've met someone - a Lankan what's more! - who doesn't enjoy watching Atapattu bat.

I mean, sure, after Aravinda just about anything's After The Lord Mayor's Show, but still...

That hardly registers for me, though - I don't really care how hard someone hits 'em when I judge attractiveness of stroke. You can belt the cover off the ball with all the finesse in The World (Sangakkara does sometimes, for instance), but Hayden doesn't.
Yes, he does, people remember his leg side hoiks far too much, Hayden is one of the cleanest hitters of a cricket ball in the modern game.

I remember the leg-side hoicks every bit as much as the mid-off swing-throughs, and they're both things I'd rather not see, TBH.

I didn't think KP was a particularly stylish batsman?
Never really watched this Pieterson bloke, but yeah I agree, Pietersen isn't really that stylish. Another one to mention is Kamran Akmal when he's on song. Not sure how many have watched his 113 in Karachi last year but if that's not stylish I don't know what is.

Just wondering what everyone thinks of Michael Hussey, Ramnaresh Sarwan and Daryl Cullinan and there style?

Hussey is meh - not outstanding but certainly not poor; Cullinan was pretty good; Sarwan is again pretty meh.

Not Terrible
To be fair Richard if you hadn't seen that match he was hit in the feet twice and needed a runner when he was still below 50, his foot work stopped and he just ended up timing every shot beautifully, we never looked close to getting him out in that match. His fours were great too, 11 actually if I recall correctly. The sixes were slaughter but you can't go past his timing on that day. Carried his side to what should've been a great victory, yet wasn't.

That's a very, very strange question, TBH, stylish batsmen can be boring and vice-versa. These two things are not polar opposites and do not even slide on the same scale.

Most ugly and most stylish or most boring and most entertaining batsmen would be better questions.
Why is that? The questions don't necessarily have to be about opposites. I'm just happy he didn't make two separate threads!

Lara was pretty stylish as was M Waugh.

As for boring, I don't find any individual's batting boring per se but the combination of flat roads and small boundaries that you get these days in ODIs can make batting pretty tedious to watch.

I find Pietersen quite stylish to watch actually, he can look a bit un-gainly at times but I appreciate his ability to put the length ball away to the boundary, quite often with a combination of timing and power.

Boring batsmen are the likes of Afridi because of his tendency to slog almost anything, and I find Collingwood quite boring, both because of the slow scoring and ugly nature of his shots.

K.P. and Michael Clarke are two of the most stylish bats of this era,Marto and M.Waugh were also very stylish batsmen.

I suppose. It just seemed a bit odd, not normally the sort of combo of questions you'd expect.

Whatever it takes!!!
Lara is the most stylish batsman I have seen.... NOt just because he had so many shots in his armoury but because you would never know when he will decide to play some of those most outrageous shots.... And nobody managed to mix flair and beauty in their batting as much as Lara... Some have more flair and a lot of others like Martyn, Waugh jr, Laxman at his best etc... have more beauty in their batting but as a mix, I don't think anyone came close to Sir BCL...
