Mick Lewis Tribute Thread

You can prove that wrong by using Murali? That would be a first. You look at the guy's bowling and you get the impression he is not cut out for this. MAybe he can (and will) improve, but that doesn't hide the fact that he looks the worst specialist ODI bowler going around at the moment... It seems okay to ridicule an all time great like Murali and yet it is not okay to ridicule Lewis? No one is ridiculing the man or his efforts. Just pointing out that he MAY NOT be fit at the moment to play this class of the game.
No-one has said you can prove the fact that Lewis is the worst ODI bowler ever by using Murali. You can, however, prove that the standards by which Lewis is the worst ODI bowler ever are wrong, because by those same standards Murali is 2nd worst, and you and I know he's not the 2nd worst.

When has anyone said that it's ok to ridicule Murali?

Like LE said, some of you are way too over-defensive, and I have no idea where you get most of these ideas from.

But the point is that this thread is not made to ridicule his bad performance on Sunday. IT is to discuss the fact that he has had a very rocky beginning to his bowling career and the fact that he will be hard pressed to maintain his place in the side with blokes like Gillespie and Kasper sitting out.
Oh come on.

The thread is called the "Mick Lewis tribute thread", posted immediately after his 113 off 10. The first line mentions it, followed by a laughing smiley. If you don't think this thread is ridiculing Lewis for his poor performance, you must have blinkers on. It's massive spin to say the thread is about Mick Lewis struggling to maintain his place in the Australian side - it was about making fun of Lewis for conceding the most runs ever in an ODI and having a shocking start to his ODI career. That's fine if you want to make fun of him, but if Lewis warrants it, why not Murali?

LOL ok. Fair enough. Faip has his point too. I just don't get the way too over-defensive part because when someone says Murali has red shoes one of his fans ALWAYS comes out and screams out something to defend him. Even if it wasn't mean't to insult. Read this thread, you can see it clearly.

I don't disagree with you.

I think all the Murali fans are way too over-defensive whenever Murali is even mentioned. I have nothing against Murali.

I hope I understand you correctly.

Of course not, but we all know they`re idiots. This is an official acknowledgement.

Regardless, I`m not debating how bad each deed is. I was just giving a reason to Dinu. :) You seem ultra-sensitive.
...More so than Murali and Sri Lanka. They didn't complain this much, or rather officially at all.

I actually don't really......He was sledging guys left right and centre, and let's face it, even McGrath would not have done that. HE was an idiot out there, like Nel, really....
I don't condone either of their sledging antics, but at least Nel can bowl...

even though the way he bowled frustrated me, looking back now i kinda feel sorry for the bloke. Hopefully he can go back for Victoria & still be able to contribute to their success.

Mick does a good job for Durham. He was brilliant last year in the County Championship and even though he only bowled 169 overs for us he took 26 wickets had 27 maidens with an average of 23.61 (conceding 614 runs). He was more costly in terms of runs maybe than I would have liked but he still took those wickets. A great 5-80 in one match

He was even better in the NCL and again he didnt play a great deal. He bowled 36.2 overs and took 13 wickets with 3 maidens for an average of 12 (conceding 156 runs). He got a great 5-48 in one match and had the best bowling average of the whole NCL side.

Batting. The less said the better. One mildly good innings of 20 but other than that he was terrible but thats only to be expected

Interesting to see how much he plays and how well he does this year now we back in the top flight.

You Durham boy's certainly know how to pick your Aussie quicks.
Lewis goes for 113 in an ODI and Tait had first class season figures of 18-0-176-0 for you.

Can any Australian recommend anyone else to take Durhams money

Good old Lewis laughed off his thrashing, saying that 'that's the nature of the beast, you'll either have a good day or a bad one.' He's a good bloke and a decent bowler; it's a pity he lost it.

The players who deserved to be ridiculed for failure are those who are clearly talented enough to play international cricket, but still fail miserably at it.
Ahh Mohammed Sami and the Great Ajit Agarkar you mean, definitely yes :D

In his defence (don't know if it's been mentioned), if Mick Lewis hadn't bowled this great over in Wellington, NZ would have had the HADLEE Chappell Trophy

6 runs needed off the last over, Lewis is given the ball
49.1 Lewis to McCullum, one run, pitched up, driven down to long-off,
looking for a second but the fielder moves in quickly and cuts it
off
49.2 Lewis to Vettori, one run, yorker outside off stump, Vettori drops
it to short cover region and crosses over for a single, 4 off 4
needed
49.3 Lewis to McCullum, no run, Run Out! good length, driven straight to
Clarke at point, they take off for a dangerous single and Clarke
hits at the bowlers end

New Zealand 319/9, Partnership of 24
BB McCullum run out (MJ Clark) 49 (33b 5x4 0x6)

49.4 Lewis to Vettori, one run, fuller length ball, pushed to short mid-
wicket region
49.5 Lewis to Mills, no run, All Over! pitched up on the off stump,
driven back to the bowler, Lewis misfields on his follow-through
and ball loops up, Vettori goes for the single and Lewis quick to
get to the ball, dives and takes off the bails

New Zealand 320/10, Partnership of 1
KD Mills run out (Lewis) 0 (1b 0x4 0x6)

TV umpire is called for and the red light flashes, 2 runs victory
for Aussies
Aussies win by 2 runs and with that they bag the Chappell-Hadlee
Trophy, 2005-06

One over I know, but I will be bitter forever :)

Its funny how he's the worst international bowler after 1 terrible performance go back to Friday and he was one of the heroes.

Lewis would deifinitely have played test match cricket for SL (Fernando anyone? - that guy is absolute dross and wouldnt play fc in Aus), NZ, Windies, India (have a look at their lineup of great quicks), Zimbabwe and Bangladesh.
Mick lewis would not even make the cut for assam-11 which in my opinion is one of the low ranked ranji team in India. On what basis you have compared him to line up of great quicks for that matter to fernando. This shows your lack of cricket knowledge or it also shows that you do not watch cricket. I think in my opinion he is even unfit to play first class cricket even in bangladesh. Only WA can have him.

Well, it is statistically the worst bowling performance EVER in an ODI. I'm not surprised that he is being called the "worst international bowler after 1 terrible performance". Imagine if, let's say, Brian Lara (after making 5 and 0 in the first test vs NZ), went and made 500* off 297 balls against NZ next week. He would be called the best international batsman. One off perfomances, especially the most recent, are always going to influence the opionion of the people.

Peace out.
