We can debate how he may have dipped if he performed for few more years or he may not have done so well without support but that’s just speculation
The point of mentioning these caveats was in response to someone asking if Marshall hd stt holes or blemishes.

But few here doubt he was no.1 even with all those caveats.

Why not? He did well last two tours.
2018 and 2021 wickets were handcrafted for Anderson, Broad and Woakes, extremely bowler friendly and the English batting in 2018 and 2021 was extremely weak. Right now, the pitches would probably be developed for the batting lineup and the batting has improved massively, I don't have a good feeling for Bumrah, Rohit might bowl him to dust this time around.

Yeah that's mostly true, the difference always seems to come down to extra weak lineups, good batting lineups often have similar output given the era is similar enough (IE not 1950s or 2000s). Generally feel like it's kind of overstated how say Ponting's, or Marshall's numbers would be affected if they played against their own lineups, Windies of late 80s and early 90s was a vulnerable batting unit.
Most definitely.

If you think his holes are that he didnt face any atg batting lineups then that's not unreasonable. But he didn't generally face anything poor though, and I've already given definitions of what I consider to be poor or "weak" as you stated. And a good Pakistan lineups for example, plus their wickets and 'other' factors and he did amazing there does deserve some credit. If only because you demerit points from guys like Ambrose for being unproven in Asia.

What if he plays 4 Tests and takes 30 wickets?
Will that make him greater or lesser in your eyes?
obviously greater, but I don't think that's possible, England comfortably has the best batting unit in the world at the moment and there'd be atleast one 500+ draw wicket.

Okay.

Even I think he won’t be able to play all 5 Tests.

I wish the captain uses him wisely in the England series

I'm back. I kinda feel like subz probably has issues with every player you rate for whatever reason but that's just me. I'm just going ask point blank, do you think Marshall is head and shoulders above the other great fast bowlers??
I suspect he will say he doesn't. But then at times he has suggested Marshall belongs in a trinity with Bradman and Sobers.

Yes not many very strong lineups but plenty of middle of the road ones. Again it doesn't stop him from being no.1. All players having blemishes.
