i dont think ipl sides are that stubborn about letting players leave, Buttler was a far more important player for Rajasthan and they let him leave. we’ve had players pull out during the tournament too. the players get paid depending on their availability so Phillips would only miss out on a portion of it and his contract’s around $180k now that im checking, is missing a portion of it going to hurt him that much?

Nah, ultimately that's his call. I didn't realise Buttler was released, that's reasonably indicative of the superior central contract money on offer for England, but it's even more frustrating that other sides are taking this seriously and we won't.

Again, it's not saying we would've beaten WI or Afghanistan with more preparation. It's just a fitting state of play summary for how this side is run.

it wasnt just Buttler though, csk bought Fizz originally assuming he would be available for the full tournament but the bcb then forced him to return mid tournament for a bilateral series against Zimbabwe
