Faaip do you live in Melbourne? :-O If so, I wonder why I never knew that. I just thought you lived in SA since you were a Crow fan.
No no, Sydney. I just like Melbourne, and it's a bit colder than Sydney so fitted the quote better. I did live in Melbourne for a number of years though, as well as Adelaide.

yeah i would say Clarke will bat at 4, katich at 5 and the new person at 6
I'd leave Katich at 6, so it'd be Clarke, New guy, Katich

Really? I actually think Katich is better suited to batting at 4 than 6. He's a top order player normally, and isn't really that adept at batting with the tail. Watson is similar, but at the bottom of the pecking order he has to learn to bat 6.

I'd go for

Langer
Hayden
Ponting
Katich
Clarke
Watson
Gilchrist
Warne
Lee
McGrath
Tait

Just on Katich, how the hell is he still in the ODI side? I mean, it's so obvious that he's a top-order batsman. However, for ODI's, surely you wouldn't select him in front of Clarke, Martyn or Gilchrist to open, nor ahead of our current number three (Ponting). Therefore, he shouldn't be there.

Back on topic though, with Gillespie left out does this spell the end of his international career?

(Thought I would bring discussion to another one of the players axed)

depends how he bowls for SA, the way he was bowling for England he wont even get picked for them.

Given the dearth of bowling talent, I think the door is still ajar. At 30, I don't believe that guys suddenly lose their 'nip' permanently.

He was still bowling up toward 87-88 quite often during the last tour, so he stilll has his pace. Benaud commented on his wrist position/dropped shoulder in his action, which is something he can work on with a bowling coach. It's not all over for Gillespie if he gets the right advice and works hard. This guy was an incredible talent, they need to sit him down, watch some videos of him taking pfeiffers and see what he's doing differently now compared to then.

No argument here. I think some specialist coaching - which he probably wasn't getting from Buchanan - in an environment away from the pressure cooker which was the Ashes Tour, will see him on the tour to Sth Africa next year.

So you obviously haven't visited Queensland yet?

When I got back from my Melbourne adventure two years ago, the moment I stepped off the plane I noticed the change and to be honest it was a lot better up here in winter then down there (that said Melbourne is one of my favourite places). And another thing I didn't find Melbourne weather as bad as what is made out to be: people walking around all rugged up as if they are in St Petersburg, yet I found it fine wearing only long pants and a t-shirt, and these people have been there longer then I had been.
Ive actually just finished packing my bag for a trip to the AFL Grand Final this weekend.

Packed everything from an overcoat (literally) to shorts.

I agree but would keep an open mind about a move for Katich to no. 3 and an inclusion of MacGill should conditions even hint at spin.

Ponting is an incredibly gifted player but susceptible early on whilst Katich is a one gear player that needs to be pointed towards the crease and told "dont get out."

For mine, Stuie is a "must" for the Super Test. We have 3 world class bowlers - McGrath, Warne and MacGill. The inclusion of Watson allows all to play and I really dont care whether Shane's hairdresser get offended by it or not. Plus, early season wicket at SCG will be slow but will spin plenty because of the AFL.

Any state which both has rugby league as its main football code AND elects Bjelke-Petersen for about 400 years AND is the home and haven of the One Nation Party cannot be the greatest state in the land.
Fair enough. But any state that has Redback Bitter as there main brand of beer cannot be the greatest state in the land. Even Very Bad is better than Redback Bitter.

Obviously you've never been here if you think Redback Bitter is our 'main beer'. That, by extension, renders you opinion on anything SA null and void. :)

By the way, Coopers and West End would be the main beers here. Not that I drink but no-one I know drinks Redback.

Why Katich made the ODI squad ahead of Hodge I have no idea either.
good to see someone agreeing with me on this point at least, Hodge would definately make a better OD option that Katich surely.....

true about Katich being a normal top-order bat but i dunno i'm just feeling a bit uncomfortable with him batting at 4 in the super test at least, i say give Hodge a go... & also MaCgilla could well & play but i've heard that in October the balls swings a bit at the SCG so well see what happens.
