Any state that has AFL as their main footy code cannot be considered as the greatest state in the land.

Any state which both has rugby league as its main football code AND elects Bjelke-Petersen for about 400 years AND is the home and haven of the One Nation Party cannot be the greatest state in the land.

It is certianly a very strange decision because although he had a terrible series he didnt look to me like was actualy in bad touch or he had just lost it completly anyway i would be suprised if he didnt return

The Australia selectors are just pretending to be more ruthless.

Dropping Martyn from the test squad has to be the dumbest decison ever made.

Who would the world XI rather have batting at number 4?

One of the best batsmen in the world with an average around 50 or Brad Hodge.

No disrespect to Hodge but he doesn't come anywhere near Martyn.

The selectors have acted the way England in the 90s would have acted, they have over re-acted to one bad series and i don't see them returning to their world-dominating best any time soon.

I don't usually criticise the selectors, but this is surely the worst selection decision in recent memory, from any country.
honestly, did you expect anything different from the australian selectors?
and personally i dont think that this is the worst selection decision in recent memory, because the genius who came up with the idea of picking nathan hauritz deserves a real pat on the back, for providing me and a lot of other people with the biggest joke in cricket history.

This is one of the surprising and unfair axing's that comes to mind, and one bad series means you are out
arent the aussie selectors known for axing players after good series? katich and martin love were both dropped after scoring centuries in their previous game.

Okay so those look to be it. The only one I can't really remember in the LBW in the second innings of the Lords Test but I don't think that was a dodgy?

EDIT: Testing the memory now;

1st Test;

1st innings - got a good one from Jones
2nd innings - LBW I don't remamber too well but thought I did
umm the one at Lords was the ball that kept low(nearly rolled on the ground) from harmison and was going to hit off-middle stump, which is about as plumb as it gets.

People forget that Martyn out-performed his opposite number in the English side. That said Bell had a poor series as well.

Martyn should have had a great series. He has a good technique to play the late swing as he plays so late himself. It was disappointing that he failed. I still would have kept him and dropped Katich. Katich only had one good test and looked ordinary at other times.

Who bats at 4 now. Does Clarke get promoted.

I think Watson will be the replacement rather than Hodge. Watson should be picked as a batsman who can bowl a bit. He shouldn't bowl too much. Just enough to give the quicks a bit of a rest. 10 overs a day should do it. He has batted well enough lately to warrant selection.

Hayden is definitely on his last chance. He would have been gone already (during the Ashes series) if the selectors had picked another opener in the squad - Hussey or Jaques. Hodge wasn't the right replacement during the Ashes series. Jaques will be his replacement eventually.

That's a lesser blemish on the copybook, than being (in the case of Top Cat) in the State where the Democrats easily garner their greatest support. On the sporting front, at least us Queenslanders have the mental capacity to be able to follow more than one winter sport.

Having JB-P as premier for so long and being the home to One Nation is LESS a blemish than having a popular Democrats party?!? Surely you jest.

Best lifestyle, best weather, best economy, best sporting teams, best beaches, best women

As for politics, we may have a media tart but:

NSW - had that economic genius Bob Carr for many years and now the state is stuffed

Vic - Steve Bracks 'nuff said

SA - who cares? We can afford to buy their best wines and not have to visit.

By what standard is a bit of support for the democrats worse than that thing you had as Premier for a couple of decades? Or giving Pauline Hanson a political voice?
