Montero isn't really a catcher either.

With the M's he will probably catch a bit, but end up as 1B/DH. With the Yankees there wasn't much room for that with big contracts at 1B (Tex) and DH (eventually ARoid).

Yanks also have a couple of other catching prospects in Romine and Sanchez.
yes kiwininja i guess that makes sense i didn't really expect montero to catch much but he'd be a pretty handy dh for the yankees. who will dh for the yankees this year?

also since u and lostman seem to be the most knowledgeable here what did u think about the hof class this year? bagwell is at 56% still and next year piazza, bonds, clemens, biggio, sosa are all eligible do u think anybody would get in and what r ur thoughts on the players

thanks lostman what r ur thoughts on losing montero reckon he was pretty good for a switch hitter and especially cos yankees arent getting much output from the righties right now
A bit sad to lose Montero, I was sure he would have been the next Yankee star. But the Yankees major need was/is pitching and they have easily upgraded their rotation for this year as well as for the future. Also it is easier to buy hitting from FA than pitching.

P.S I am pretty sure that Montero is not a switch hitter.

The HOF votes are going to get crazy in the next few years. I honestly have no idea how the writers are going to vote. Clemons, Bonds and Sosa will be ignored for a few years but the other guys?
What was interesting this year was Larkin's vote % jumped 20% from ~60 to ~80. Not doubting his credentials, but I wonder if this was due to some roid candidates on the ballot.

Bagwell will eventually get in. I hope Tim Raines and Edgar Martinez do, but they voters are a bunch of dumbasses.

Bonds, Piazza, and Clemens will eventually get in, methinks.

Biggio will get in.

Can't see McGwire, Sosa, or Palmeiro getting in though.

MLB website confirms that he's not.

I think this is a good trade for both teams. Yankees have quite a few choice to make for their starting rotation now.

Also interesting to see where Fielder ends up. The Nationals are mentioned a lot.

Piazza and Biggio should definitely get in.

Piazza is a first balloter, imo.
i think there are only rumors about piazza but it's the same with bagwell and he should be in there too. i reckon he will get in too but it'll take some time.

interesting stuff kiwininja and lostman

yes montero is not a switch hitter i think yankees were going to or did platoon him with posada l think that's where i got confused

Fielder and his agent met with the Rangers this past weekend. Apparently the meeting went well. At this point, the Nationals and the Rangers seem to be the front runner for him. I think a 6 year deal is likely for him, which is a far cry from the 10 years he wanted earlier.

Being reported that Prince Fielder signs with the Tigers for 9 years, $214 million. Holy cow did they overpay!!

9/214 is so ********. And he's a DH.
He'll play 1st for now. That was one of his big contract demands; he didn't want to DH. In the short term, the Tigers upgraded their team (offensively of course, he's terrible as a defensive 1st baseman). However, a few years down the line they're really going to regret this deal.

Indeed. It's good for the short term, they have like a 3 year window where Cabrera, Verlander, and Fielder will all be at their peaks, but after that.....

They have 3 DH's hooked up to rather large contracts. 2013-2014 they will have close to $60m tied up on 3 players with only one position between them.

They've basically gone to Vegas and put all the savings on black.
