Mahela is one of those odd batsmen conquered India in or outside India. Conquering Indian spin juggernaut is not the easiest.

Arguably. But I don’t think so

jayawardene was a renowned home track and flat track bully. That was even recognised during his playing days.
The same flat tracks that became dust bowls when Murali bowled . .eh?

Mahela vs Aravinda

Once again self explanatory. Only thing to note is that Aravinda missed a shitload of matches at home in 86 - 90 period due to LTTE terrorist activities, where he was i a middle of a monstrous purple patch. Would have averaged 45, and that graph would have looked very similar to MJs.

An Australian player who did well in SA but sucked in Asia would be rated more highly than Jayawardene. This poll is disrespectful imo. He has the same home away split as Hayden. Monster in Asia on turning decks. Not ATG but elite HTB.

He averaged 42 because he averaged 25 in 10 tests in IND. Even an average of 40 in IND would have taken his career average to 45 .

Even with poor form against India he hit that monstrous purpke patch in 87-91 period, where he scored some crazy hundreds overseas. India never refused to tour SL because they were sure LTTE would not attack them. (afterall LTTE was India's creation). However other non SC sides did not tour SL. The way Aravinda handle their fast bowlers on their home turfs, they would have been cannon fodder on slower tracks. India and Pakistan never had the issue. They could always pick a host of spinners, which Aravinda was poor against.

I don’t want to discuss politics here but didn’t LTTE assassinate Rajiv Gandhi ( former PM of IND ).

You are way overhyping a guy who averaged below 40 in 3 of the 4 SENA countries and played 64 of his 93 test matches in ASIA.

Chill out nobody’s saying he’s better than Gavaskar, we’re just saying he’s better than Mark Waugh.

Ten years later (1997) was when his incredible form started wasn't it? He had a handful of very good Tests in Australia and NZ in 1989 and 1991 but I wouldn't call that his purple patch.

The debate about Mark Waugh ended long ago. Here we are talking about potential batting average of Desilva. Guy played 64 of his 93 tests in Asia (around 70%) of his total tests and yet he averaged 42. Neither he averaged above 40 in SA, AUS,ENG and WI. There is nothing in his career record to suggest he would have averaged around 45 if he played more in SENA countries assuming he was a weak player of spin.

Aravinda played in SA when his reflexes were slowing and when he was better at home than overseas. However his first peak was totally different. Averaged more overseas against pace dominated teams and was poor at home against spin dominated teams. That was the very reason he averaged less at home, played very little pace dominated sides at home.

And Oh, i don't want to remind how Indhira Gandhi funded LTTE, PLOT, TELO and EPRLF and trained them in Dehradun. It says Karma is a bitch and the monster that Indira created came back and hit her son.

So Desilva averaged 52 at home and 36 overseas because Indira created LTTE . Thanks for giving me a good chuckle ?

So , Mark Taylor was better batsman than Hayden ?
Hayden was more attacking then Taylor but Taylor had a better technique plus he batted in an era where there was quality fast bowlers and spinners. If you look at stats then Taylor's career Test average was 43, Hayden's was 50 so you'd say on that basis that Hayden was better. But I still rate Mark Taylor highly - good opening batsman he was.
