Someone compare a batter who is closer to Maugh's quality instead of superior batters.

These comparison threads of Maugh indicate he is overrated in test cricket.

Comparing Mahela to de Silva on Waugh on averages is duuuuumb

The bowling De Silva and waugh faced for their whole careers isn't on the same planet to what Mahela feasted on after they retired

All other things being equal, cashing in when conditions are favourable should be considered as a positive, not a criticism.

Some 90s attacks were no better than what Mahela faced (India, New Zealand, Sri Lanka in the first half of the decade) and Mark Waugh only averaged above 43 against one side (excluding his single innings of 90 against Zimbabwe). So he gave zero evidence he would have feasted on the bowling Mahela faced had he been born 10 years later.

Absolutely no imo. There is a reason Australian team didn’t feel unbeatable during 95-99 . Once Hayden and Langer had settled at the top , that batting line up looked menacing and Gilchrist was icing on the cake.

I don’t think anyone is saying he was consistent. My last comment about Jayawardene was more in comparison with Aravinda, who was a miles better player.

I loved watching Junior bat - surely very few players have ever made batting look so easy or so good - and it's true that Jayawardene cashed in heavily at home and in an easier era for batting.

Yet notwithstanding all that the answer here is still Mahela, and by plenty.
