Luke Ronchi to NZ

WA has confirmed wicketkeeper Luke Ronchi will quit the Warriors and will head to New Zealand in an attempt to resurrect his international career.

Rumours surfaced this afternoon that Ronchi had advised his teammates of his plans at training this morning.

A spokesperson from the Warriors confirmed to PerthNow that the 30-year-old would walk away from the team and return to New Zealand, where he was born, to further his career.

The spokesperson refused to expand on the issue, with the Warriors expected to release an official statement this afternoon.

Ronchi, 30, has played 58 first-class matches and 86 one-dayers for WA.

If he thinks it will be a stroll in the park, he should think again. In terms of potential & competition for places, NZ cricket is looking more competitive than it has for some time. He'll need to displace Watling & van Wyk for starters.

Yes, but only in a 20:20 when Reece Young picked up an injury. Wasn't impressed, but he probably wasn't prepared for it.

watling has already been linked in rumours/talk with wellington so it will be hard to get a gig anywhere. I think Auckland is his best bet as Hoppy fancies himself as a specialist bat and I remember him sharing the gloves with Young,

Yeah, de Boorder could move back to Auckland......
The keepers are moving all over the place to get a gig, it's hardly a position of weakness in domestic cricket.

The moral of the story.....Ronchi shouldn't expect to easily get into a provincial side, let alone the national side.

Nah, he's not strolling straight into the side.

The only reason Watling is keeping is because John Wright is in love with him. Van Wyk and de Boorder have much more claim to the NZ keeping spot than bloody Luke Ronchi.
