THIRD SET

* Davis 4-6 6-7 (5-7) 0-1 Drake
We're back underway in the third set, and Drake begins strongly with a whippy forehand down the line for 30-0. He makes a bad error on his backhand side, but benefits from Davis' inability to return a second serve. 40-15 becomes deuce as Davis shows some solid defence, but Drake serves his way out of trouble to get on the board in the third.

Davis 4-6 6-7 (5-7) 1-1 * Drake
Davis really has to put the disappointment of the last set behind him, but he starts badly with a big double fault and then an error on the backhand side for 0-30. He fights back to level, but Drake canes a forehand for 30-40 and his first break point of the set. Davis saves that with another ace to, and then finishes the game quickly with some serves that Drake cannot get much on.

From davidbmatthews3 on Twitter: "Davis' ability to serve his way out of trouble is pretty impressive. He's done that all match expect for the last part of the second set."

* Davis 4-6 6-7 (5-7) 1-2 Drake

There's starting to get a bit of pattern here as Drake starts strongly and concedes a couple of cheap points to Davis through errors. Still, he's not really troubled here as he serve-and-volleys twice to hold for a 2-1 lead.

Jason Hall on the BBC: "The consistent depth of Drake's hitting is unbelievable. Davis hasn't been able to consistently get his forehand working for him because he's spending his time camped behind the baseline."

Davis 4-6 6-7 (5-7) 2-2 * Drake
Just what the doctor ordered for Davis as, after a tough service game to start the set, he gets an easy one to stay with Drake. A couple of big serves set up 30-0 and then Drake sends a backhand wide. Longer rally at game point, but Davis finally steps up to a Drake slice and cracks a trademark inside-out forehand winner to hold. Take that, Jason Hall! He's playing catchup here, so these love games help to keep the pressure on the eighth seed.

Jason Hall on the BBC: As if on cue… "That's what he needs to do more of."

You feel Davis has to make his move soon or this match is going to slip through his fingers. All Drake this game as he won the points himself and handed Davis one with an unforced error. There isn't much time left for Heath if he continues to park himself so far behind the baseline even though he will drop points if he tries to step up.

Davis 4-6 6-7 (5-7) 2-4 * Drake
Drama! Yet another ace from Heef allows him to recover for 30-30, but he follows it up with what he thinks is a winner. Drake looks to his box before challenging, and Davis is seriously not pleased about how long he took before making that decision. "Come on, mate," he says to the chair umpire. Nevertheless, Hawkeye shows the ball was about a quarter of an inch wide to give Drake a break point. That's all he needs as he approaches the net for more success and puts away a volley to move just two games away from his first Grand Slam title!

* Davis 4-6 6-7 (5-6) 3-4 Drake
Yet again, Davis applies CPR to himself with a ballsy break with his back against the wall. Drake falls behind 0-30 and needs a first serve more than anything. He manages to get to 15-30, but Davis attacks a second serve with a strong backhand to bring up two break points. Drake gets a good first serve out wide that Davis cannot get back into play, but the 23rd seed steps inside of a second serve that he plants down the line to return this set to service!

Are the winds of change upon us? For the second time this set, Davis comes out of the change of ends with a much-needed easy service game. Drake starts off by challenging what looked to be a clear winner and was called out - he is ruled correct. Davis again is frustrated by Alfonso Vreeburg's decision not to replay the point. He responds by slamming home a pair of big aces, and then a brave serve-and-volley sets up 40-15. Drake tries to attack a second serve but dumps it into the net to level the set at 4-4.

* Davis 4-6 6-7 (5-7) 4-5 Drake
Davis has his chance here! A slice that falls on the wrong side of the net for Drake gives Davis two break points at 15-40. Drake saves the first by approaching the net after hitting Davis off the court, before he plays an absurd drop shot and then lob to save the second one! Davis puts a backhand into the net to give Drake a game point, but saves that. He earns a third break point after prevailing in a long rally, but Drake draws an error with some top spin. Long game here, but Drake eventually manages to hold after staving off three break points. That could have been Davis' chance there!

I do like that Davis is now coming to the net a bit more often, but it costs him badly as he approaches off a second serve and is passed easily by Drake for 0-30. He draws back to 30-30, but watches as a forehand spirals long to give Drake a championship point. Following the general way this match as gone, Davis saves that with an ace and then escapes with a hold thanks to a couple of mistakes from Drake.

* Davis 4-6 6-7 (5-7) 5-6 Drake
All on Davis to stay in this again as Drake doesn't let the failed championship point get to him and serves it out to love. His net approaches look far more convincing than Davis' as the big man struggles to pass him. Drake's volleying is pretty superb, I must say.

Davis 4-6 6-7 (5-7) 6-6 Drake
Well after Drake serves that game out to love, Davis manages to hold easily as well as he shoots out to 40-0. Drake refuses to tank this game as he wins a long rally after giving the big man the runaround, but again chooses wrong with the serve as Davis nails ace #21. He's officially passed Spidla, too, with the ace count. All on the line now for Davis! He has to win this tiebreaker.

This crowd is deafening at the moment after a set that has had it all so far except a victor! Drake starts with a bang as he slaps a forehand winner past Davis for 1-0, while Heef responds with… you guessed it, ace #22. Big opening for Drake, though, as Davis' second serve is met with a big forehand which Davis cannot return to play for the early minibreak. Drake holds both points on serve for a 4-1 lead, before putting a volley mid court and watching as Davis sails a forehand past him to be 2-4 at the change of ends. After that break, Davis makes it 3-4 with ace #23, but he's still that minibreak down and Drake does well to hold his first point after being in a tricky position. He comes to the net more convincingly next to make it 6-3 and bring up three championship points! Davis with the first serve in, but five shots later sends a backhand long and Jefferson Drake is your Wimbledon champion!

Was so happy when Drake won that third set. The live sim is great provided it doesn't go to five sets. Only so many different ways you can say "Davis held serve."
