THIRD SET
* Davis 4-6 6-7 (5-7) 0-1 Drake
We're back underway in the third set, and Drake begins strongly with a whippy forehand down the line for 30-0. He makes a bad error on his backhand side, but benefits from Davis' inability to return a second serve. 40-15 becomes deuce as Davis shows some solid defence, but Drake serves his way out of trouble to get on the board in the third.
Davis 4-6 6-7 (5-7) 1-1 * Drake
Davis really has to put the disappointment of the last set behind him, but he starts badly with a big double fault and then an error on the backhand side for 0-30. He fights back to level, but Drake canes a forehand for 30-40 and his
first break point of the set. Davis saves that with another ace to, and then finishes the game quickly with some serves that Drake cannot get much on.
From davidbmatthews3 on Twitter: "Davis' ability to serve his way out of trouble is pretty impressive. He's done that all match expect for the last part of the second set."
* Davis 4-6 6-7 (5-7) 1-2 Drake
There's starting to get a bit of pattern here as Drake starts strongly and concedes a couple of cheap points to Davis through errors. Still, he's not really troubled here as he serve-and-volleys twice to hold for a 2-1 lead.
Jason Hall on the BBC: "The consistent depth of Drake's hitting is unbelievable. Davis hasn't been able to consistently get his forehand working for him because he's spending his time camped behind the baseline."
Davis 4-6 6-7 (5-7) 2-2 * Drake
Just what the doctor ordered for Davis as, after a tough service game to start the set, he gets an easy one to stay with Drake. A couple of big serves set up 30-0 and then Drake sends a backhand wide. Longer rally at game point, but Davis finally steps up to a Drake slice and cracks a trademark inside-out forehand winner to hold. Take that, Jason Hall! He's playing catchup here, so these love games help to keep the pressure on the eighth seed.
Jason Hall on the BBC: As if on cue… "That's what he needs to do more of."
