The live-action follows the anime pretty closely, right up until a point around the anime episodes in the 20s where the film-makers obviously reckoned 2hrs 20 was a decent timing for a sequel film so altered the ending somewhat.

Yeah, the film ending is good as well, but not as good as the original imo.
