Preview: This will be a huge clash for the boys from TF, they face a red hot All Australian side, where every player is a superstar in their own right. We will look at the places where TF will be strong, and where they will be weak.

Strengths
  • The half forward line will have a lot of freedom if they play their natural game, as the All Australian team have an attacking, rebounding half back line with Hodge, Riccuito and Cornes, who can all be unaccountable at times.
  • The dominance of Alex Blackman in the centre is undeniable. If he plays well, expect the team to put up a good fight. However, he will be against class opposition, his counterpart being Brownlow medallist favourite and captain of the Eagles, Ben Cousins.
  • Darren Murphy's form has been stellar, kicking 7 goals against Ben Rutten (who is incidentally in this AA team) against Adelaide. He will look to exploit his direct opponent, Chad Cornes, who often loses sight of his player as he rebounds from the defensive 50.
Weaknesses
  • The full forward of the side, Rob D., had a horrific game against Adelaide, not touching the ball once whilst his side kicked 25 goals. He will face Ben Rutten, who has been able to keep other forwards very quiet during the H&A season.
  • The half forward line of the AA team - Buckley, Brown and Tredrea. Three superstars who can all explode and destroy the opposition. They are also consistent so expect the TF side to have trouble keeping these players quiet. Young Deja Moo will have a huge assignment on the rampant Jonathan Brown.
  • The potent rebounding ability of the AA half back line - in Hodge, Riccuito, and Cornes will be a very difficult thing to keep track of. An inside 50 could be turned around in a matter of seconds and the ball could be safely nestled in the hands of any number of the AA's powerhouse forwards.
  • The AA fullback line is about as leaky as a dry lake - for the slow, not very. Clement is regarded as the best one-on-one player in the league, Rutten has kept countless forwards goalless and Scarlett is a hard working spoiler who rarely loses against his opponents. The big question is who will get the job on Linda Philipps, a new exciting prospect from TF.

Andy on the interchange. It's a crime, but this is the practice match, we need our superstar not to be overworked :D

AA vs TF, 1st quarter
The much awaited centre bounce begun as the booming siren rang off at the home of football, the MCG. The two big men, Nath and Cox, ran in to each other, Nath winning the tap, Dave getting wrapped up and a second bounce signalling the start of hostilities...

The first quarter was played at blistering pace, West brilliant for AA with 9 touches and a goal. The AA half back line proved a powerful rebounding force, with Luke Hodge gaining 5 inside 50s. TF star Alex Blackman was electric, with 11 disposals and 3 marks, setting up a goal or two. In the forward line, Ed had trouble keeping Pavlich tied down, the Fremantle big man taking 2 contested marks and kicking 3 goals. At the other end Darren Murphy was nothing short of brilliant, kicking 3 goals and taking 4 marks. The TF team seemed taken aback by the fast, attacking style of the AA team.

Quarter time
AA - 7-1-43
(Goals: Pavlich 3, Brown, Tredrea, West, Cox)
TF - 4-0-24
(Goals: Murphy 3, Linda)

AA vs TF, 2nd quarter

West continued on from his white hot first quarter and racked up another 10 disposals and another goal. Providing some run out of TF backline the was little known back flanker King Ponting, who managed an impressive 7 disposals and 2 inside 50s. Pavlich, who was against superb, combined with Jon Brown, and two comprehensively skinned the TF defence alive. Pavlich often caught Ed off his man, taking 4 marks and kicking another 3 goals, Jon Brown giving Deja Moo a headache as he kicked 2 goals and took several marks. Blackman was again a solid contributor, racking up 6 possessions, a goal and 2 marks. Stedman was impressive on his debut, getting 5 touches which were all executed effectively. Up forward, Murphy was again unstoppable, kicking 2 goals and taking 4 marks. Dauth found some of the ball, getting a goal for the quarter and three marks. Andy was prolific in the air for TF, taking 2 sensational marks, which no doubt inspired his team, kicking 1 goal. Some inaccurate kicking from TF may prove costly, kicking 5 behinds which should have been goals.

Half time
AA - 15-3-93
(Goals: Pavlich 6, Brown 3, Tredrea, West 2, Cox, Williams)
TF - 9-5-59
(Goals: Murphy 5, Blackman, Linda, Dauth, Cameron)

AA vs TF, 3rd quarter

The third quarter was perhaps a display of the most intense, spirited football that's ever been played. An inspirational talk by captain Darren Murphy at half time, urging the boys to lift, was a catalyst. TF onballer, Nick Borcich, was dynamic in the team's third quarter revitalising, getting an alarming 14 touches and 2 goals for the quarter. The rampant Matthew Pavlich was held goalless by a physically imposing Ed, and Jon Brown was also shut down quite thoroughly by Deja Moo, the Brisbane forward managing just one goal. The only positives for the AA was the continuing dominance of Dean Cox in the ruck, the destructive form of Scott West and Mark Williams, kicking 2 majors in a quarter where the AA forward line didn't see much of the ball. The inspiration came from skipper Darren Murphy, who was covered in bandages from various collisions and was at one point carried off concussed - Murphy kicking another 2 magnificent goals. Sean and Sriram begun playing some good football, the two crumbing from Murphy well and setting up other goals. In the full forward line Linda and Dauth both managed a goal each in what was a great effort against arguably the two best defenders in the AFL - Ben Rutten and James Clement. Kenny Dobson also chipped in, getting 8 disposals and 4 inside 50s.

AA - 19-4-118
(Goals: Pavlich 6, Brown, Tredrea 4, West, Williams, 2, Cox)
TF - 15-6-96
(Goals: Murphy 7, Linda, Dauth, Borcich 2, Blackman, Cameron)

AA vs TF, 4th quarter

The fourth quarter failed to live up to the 3rd, with the AA team asserting their absolute dominance over the game and kicking 9 goals against a tired and withered TF defence. The AA backline was terrific, restricting TF to just two goals for the quarter. Pavlich took an insane 5 contested marks for the quarter, and kicked 4 goals, the last on the siren, a painful sight for all TF supporters at the ground. Barry Hall set the game alight with 3 goals and 4 marks. Chris Judd and Nathan Buckley also kicked singles in what was a powerhouse display of all out attacking football.

The best for TF was Alex Blackman, who never gave up trying and worked very hard for his 9 disposals in the quarter. Some good signs for TF came when Pete Young outmarked Barry Hall, drove the ball out of defence and delivered beautifully to set up Dauth's third goal. DJellet and Linda were also solid for TF, both racking up 5 disposals each. Darren Murphy, the captain, continued to trouble Chad Cornes, kicking the only other goal of the quarter and often having to run into defence in an effort to stem the flood of goals.

The AA team eventually overran the TF team, winning by 61 points in an exciting game for all.
