leg spin problems

legspin

Cricket Spectator
Hi I'm 13 and this is my first post.
My fingers are to small to cover the whole cricket ball since I learned the 'Shane Warne Grip.' I tried it but the ball does turn at all. I've tried a the same grip on a tenis ball and it turns left about 45 degrees to the middle stump from around the wicket.
I tried a differnet grip with the tennis ball like a seam bowler with out the thumb touching and spun it anitclockwise with the hand ****ed like a normal leg spinner.
The ball spun like 70 degrees from between the far left and the middle stump.
I've got a game next wednesday with a normal size cricket ball, how can i spin it.

(With the seam bowler - like grip I dont want to use it because batsmen can spot my sliders, topspinners and leggies. At school I was using a larger sized ball and harder than a tennis ball, and not as big or hard as a proper cricket ball.)

Thanks for the Help. :)

Theres two theads each on differnet subjects on Leg spin, so dont get confused.

Hello and welcome to CW :)

The physics of spinning a ball don't change from tennis ball to cricket ball: whatever you do to one ball that makes it spin ought to work whatever the weight or colour of the ball... however, if you can't fit your hand round the thing (welcome to my world) then you are not likely to get much progress.

As a Year 8 (I assume?) you shouldn't be playing with adult size balls anyway: you ought to be using 4.75oz rather than 5.5oz deals. Trying to overdo it too young could end up mucking up your action for years, so be careful.

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind.

Yeah you should be using the smaller ball, as the other bloke says it could mess you up for a long while and more seriously put you off of Leg-Spinning.
