Brilliant... I knew there was supposed to be two one day games scheduled for Wellington A but wasn't on the NZC website. How the heck did you manage to get hold of the scorecards?

Cricket Wellington have @wgtnfirebirds but they also have @cricketwgtn, they put those out on the second one.

Auckland A takes two from two.

11 out of the 12 selected for Wellington A were the products of six different local colleges, so they're trying to trust their development pathway there. Not hunting through South African 1st XI footage, looking for a second coming of Conway like I am. Leonard was the exception, from Nelson.

Nothing of note from the Wellington lads. Good opportunities given to Rakitha Weerasundara but not taking it. He can definitely bat and probably make the Firebirds side but for some reason he doesn't go on to make big scores. Troy Johnson I think will be picked up by Firebirds next season in place of Devon Conway who'll likely bag a black caps contract.

A Hutt District vs. Karori Ewen Chatfield Trophy final is on today. Easts have won the T20 comp, but they actually lost more 50-over games than they won this summer, struggling without Lance Dry's helmsmanship, Jamie Gibson getting (for the most part) promoted beyond this level.

Unfortunately Daniel Rae isn't a younger brother of Michael and in town for study or something. He was a left-armer for Waimea College in Nelson in 2007.

Yes pretty low standard, low intensity stuff, without Dry around to make this feel more important. Sadiq Kirmani with just a filthy mow to his fourth ball there.

Asked about his future with Zimbabwean cricket, Roche said:

“Most I can say to that is there is a long journey ahead and will take one step at a time. My main focus now is not only to bring out the best in myself but the cricketers I will be coaching.”
LIAM ROCHE
Liam has been our Overseas Pro and Club Coach this season, hailing from Zimbabwe. He has been a tireless worker for the club, a valuable team member and an important conduit between the junior players of the club and the senior squad. He has made some awesome inroads into cricket development in Karori schools and has opened pathways to further developing our wealth of players.

Karori takes the win. HD's chase was on target at 115/3, at that point Sears got bowled by a bit of a donkey drop (it says Johnson, but it's not). Tried to cover the embarrassment by remonstrating for the waist-high call, but I think it dropped so sharply it wasn't really even close.

does ben sears have decent bowling allrounder potential or does he just have the boult/southee eye?

i hope he bowled like the wind in that game

Not a slogger but a decent bat. Opened batting for school and has opened in the nationals/Gillette as well. Definitely capable of wielding the bat. Likely will end up no.8 or no.9 in the long run.

Half-rat Bennett given some nasty bowling figures today via a double hundred by 2018 NZ U19 reserve wicket-keeper Callum McLachlan, who also had a 147 in the last round. If I wanted to dampen the enthusiasm, Upper Hutt are in the 7th-12th club comp, and McLachlan's yet to pass 20 in three games for Wgtn A.

Still a very good effort. He's represented NZ 19s couple of years ago. The other lad that scored a hundred also is a wicket keeper batsman. Wellington is now starting to churn wicket keeping batsman in plenty.

Blundell, Johns, McLachlan, Jones etc.. trying to emulate black caps richness of wicket keeping batsman.

Thanks Sears for proving it by scoring a hundred batting at no. 3 for HDCC.

Hopefully this experience doesn't have him leaning in the Obus Pienaar direction of heading home, rather than making Conway and Nofal's choice to stay.
Actually, Nofal hasn't made the choice to stay. He's strongly leaning towards heading back home, as of today.
