Yeah, Fleming was an absolute beast in the subcontinent. At his weakest against early swing imo.

Yeah he batted out of position for his entire career IMO. He was always a #5.
It's weird though. Looking at his technique you'd certainly say what I just said, but then you have the fact that he has a terrible conversion rate which indicates he was good early on and struggled against the spinners. He also has a ton opening in England. His performance doesn't seem to back it up, hugely.

His conversion rate was simple fear of the ton tbh. He said he always got selected for age group teams because of his consistent 70s and 80s and he never stayed at a lower level long enough to learn how to bat and bat and bat. As soon as he adjusted to test level he was made captain of a young side and he never really had the chance to focus solely on batting.
But yeah, he was a 4 or a 5. Easily a number three on the subcontinent though. Get him in early and let our best batsman against spin make a big score.

He was fine batting 4, opening or at 3 in test cricket though was a bit wrong. It's kinda like Taylor now. He's a 4 but definitely not a 3.

Yeah Italy always produce great Test batsmen.This guy must have parents from Central Districts or something (Vettori's are Italian). Everyone knows ND can't bat.

Dave Johnson. He coached him from the age of eight or nine up until around he finished secondary school iirc.

The facilities in the entire Bay of Plenty area are really second to none, unlike a lot of the country there isn't much cricket played on artificial pitches - at any level. Having kids playing most of there cricket on proper grass wickets growing up really does help keep them from developing bad habits that crop up from playing on artificial wickets, such as limited footwork.
