Not really. He’s missed out on a load of runs during his peak. He scored this game because he batted really slowly. Hopefully he continues that.

That's high praise considering of Hobbs, Grace, Hammond, Hutton and co.; but if Cook is only judging those whom he watched, then I don't think there was even any other decent option.

Agree. He's surpassed Boycott, and offers more to an AT England XI than Barrington (pace of scoring, and ability to play and bowl spin) although Kenny B's Ashes' record is a massive plus point for Barrington.

Yeah Barrington had a bit of a golden arm. Only 29 wickets but amongst them Sobers (twice), Hunte, Walcott, Walters, Nurse, Cowper, Umrigar, Majid Khan and Lindsay.

I don’t recall Barrington ever being called out on his spin playing abilities?

Anyway I’d have both of them in my English XI likely.

Honestly I'd probably just ditch Jimmy for Botham and bat deep with this method. Having Grace/Hammond/Root/Barrington all as potential bowling options means this top six is appealing to me.
