"Also widely regarded as the most despised bloke on the international cricket circuit and a genuine **** of a human." - Burgey

"Despised"? Really? I can understand non-English supporters "despising" the adulation he receives from certain quarters but such a sweeping statement is, quite frankly, ridiculous.
As for the "genuine **** of a human" comment I'd be interested to know the basis of such a statement. From what I have heard and read he is one of the sport's nice guys. Only a real **** of a human would make such a judgement.

Congratulations Jimmy, no matter what twisted and bitter comments emanate from a certain quarter, yours is a wonderful achievement.

He threatened to punch George Bailey of all people. He's a knob for that alone

I dug out footage of his first test, at home to Zimbabwe all those years ago. He looked about 15 tbh, so I don't believe for a moment that he's actually 38. I don't get many things right, but my prediction at the start of 2003 was that he'd go on and have a better test career than Steve Harmison, who was the other young English quick to make his debut around then. Obviously I kept quiet about that prediction for the next five years or so, but now seems as good a time as any.
His birth was indeed registered in Burnley in Q3 1982. See about half way down on the left hand side:

Not my impression. In all interviews post retirement I have found Akhtar a big man, praises many of his opponents without a hint of being salty.
I loved his interview in the breakfast with champions series on YouTube. The best bit was where he talks about turning up for selections and how it felt like he had swallowed an "aag ka gola" when he was thrown the ball in the small window of opportunity he was given to impress Zaheer Abbas.

Nah, CW overall has him spot on. Which is just as well, because the current Pommy response is, well...

see i don't think anyone's saying anderson is an abjectly bad bowler, which, if that were the case sure i'd agree he is underrated.

the case is that while he has had some good overseas performances (such as, as mentioned by @GIMH before in the tour thread, when england came here and won and did the same to india too), but by and large he's failed to stand up and be counted and be great overseas when the team's needed him; all too often in australia he's been middling, which, again, when you've got a pattern of doing it it is a black mark. you have to credit the guy for coming out every time and putting all the miles in to his legs that he has in crushing ashes defeats here, but as they say one swallow a summer does not make, and having the odd good overseas performance doesn't erase the rest of it.

again, that's not to say he's rubel hossain every time he comes to australia

just that by and large he hasn't been able to be great overseas - same criticism that is rightly levelled at dave warner (though jimmy's a better overseas bowler than warner is an overseas bat); and if you can't deliver that as the leader of an english attack you deserve the black mark, just as would australians who can't deliver in away ashes on the isles.

Comparing Anderson with Warner is quite apt. Warner has had a few great overseas tours but by and large hasn't been very good overseas. He's a dominant beast at home though and it gives him an ATG average despite not being that.

If anything Warner could be considered even more dominant than Anderson in that regard. However Anderson has been doing it for twice as long so not quite a fair comparison.

Congratulations to Anderson on a great achievement.

On a side note, why do folks think he's as ineffective outside England? Is it because he's more of a kiss-the-surface type bowler and doesn't really extract movement off the wicket? Which is surprising of itself for someone with such immaculate control over seam position. When I think of Anderson, the picture is of a guy pitching the ball up and giving it every chance to swing. Perhaps he could have dragged his lengths back and used more shoulder in places like Aus and SA.
