Jay Shah, England, India, and Australia in talks to kill test cricket

Not too long ago SA shitted all over test cricket when they sent a C grade side to play tests in NZ. That's their priorities stated right there. Domestic T20 and tests are a nuisance to them. They should've been disqualified from the WTC then.
For them to have been disqualified there needed to haven been a rule which they had broken. Ignoring any issues around applying such a rule retroactively, how do you propose it be worded? You can't have it say something along the lines of "teams should send their best available team" without an objective definition of what that best available team is.

Scheduling is quite difficult as it is. How will the teams facing relegation/promotion schedule series in advance with the uncertainty of knowing which division they’ll be in?
Don't fret – with an extended triple round-robin IPL, there will be more time to arrange scheduling.

I don’t like it but I think it’s needed test cricket going forward is only sustainable for India due to market size and Eng-Aus due to culture it’s becoming unsustainable for other nations to keep their players/public interested in test cricket , leagues have created so many opportunities for young players to make good living that no longer a boy from Lahore or Colombo aspires to bowl with red ball for his country

Mentioned previously that a good friend coaches a young bowler with a CA contract

He told me yesterday that the bowler will earn $1.45 million this year and that “only” includes $140,000 from an IPL contract

Young players in most other countries aren’t earning anything like that so the lure of t20 money is irresistible

They didn't break any rules. Its just an opinion. If I needed to I'd get a lawyer to word it.

Exactly the point being made to you.
Look I'm ok with it. I think it'd be pretty easy marketing a contest amongst the big 3. Even amongst the next 3, but it'd be tough. You should've seen how desperate it was when Pak and WI toured here. They weren't even mentioned. It was all focused on the home team and not the contest.

Yes money talks and I don’t grudge these young cricketers for not putting test cricket at a pedestal.
If bowling 4 overs per match can get you $500k per annum playing multiple leagues why would you break your back for your country on a Rawalpindi road where 600 plays 600 and then when you get injured PCB send you to a doctor with a fake degree who screws up your surgery and you can’t bowl ever again

I think the pattern we’re now establishing for India and Australia series suits the ECB, and frankly is good for English cricket in as much as we play our biggest home series in the summers without a football tournament, now that India also seems to be falling into the odd numbered years. To that end, I’m not sure they’d move away from the four year cycle for The Ashes at least, as it would break that.

Wouldn’t surprise me at all if they had initiated the whole thing as the ECB is struggling financially

we all have to agree that relegation needs to be applicable to the 'big 3' as much as any other team right? because england will get relegated and it will be really really funny.

I'm happy with cricket expansions but you're kidding yourself if you think more depth means more strength. It doesn't. It just means more sub standard sides playing a level of cricket they can't meet or deserve to play. The discrepancy is greatest at test level. I think the proposal is a good one. It keeps up the standard of tests and plays it in front of audiences who appreciate it. Hopefully it stop the disgrace perpetrated by SA mentioned earlier from happening again. Let the other sides play white ball and create an exclusive product around tests.
Why do you think that is though? The players are paid a pittance to the IPL money that they used to steal South African cricket effectively.

I don't disagree with sentiment that it was shocking they did that. As you say makes a mockery they are in the final because of that.

But I have a semblance of understanding as the cancer that is the IPL and the boards that worship at it's feet have created that situation.

Yeah currently we're heading towards national boards essentially paying for the development of franchise players.

Finn Allen would have had a fair bit of raw cash poured into him by NZC and the investment will seemingly only pay off for everyone but NZC. There are likely more successful examples but he's the first who springs to mind.

I think national boards should consider multi year contracts and bonds.
