you know I don't take the 50 tour into account (same with Your boy Walter's post war career) so 46 in Aus, 49 in Windies, 60 in England, good peer rep, long career etc etc I guess just below Barrington, above May and Geoffrey.

that's not exactly true, I debated Cricket pretty extensively in the mid 2000s, a lot more than now.

everyone knows who Denis Compton is. It’s just that most people think he was highly overrated because of the non cricketing factors (Brylcreem etc). Just because the rest of us don’t overrate old English cricketers doesn’t mean we don’t know who they are.
