Miandad benefited from biased umpires and flat pitches in Pakistan. He also failed against the best team of his time. Gower repeatedly did at no3; albeit only at home but Hadlee was lethal in English conditions.

Top players had a better chance of succeeding against Hadlee than great bowlers from some other units because Hadlee often lacked pressure-building support at the other end.
