I don't know Pilch well enough to comment so take his post at face value, I don't see the troll effort there at all tbh.

Phlegm however, is blatant, is diabolically poor.......but he always has been, for some very odd reason we still seem to love him, got me ****ed why but there ya go.
Pilch is great precisely because his troll posts fly under the radar. He makes sly suggestions that Wagner is better than Anderson rather than coming out all guns blazing with reeee Southee > Jimmy but big 3 bad. I'm a genuine admirer btw.

He's unashamedly almost solely a NZ promoter. Very rarely see him pop up unless it's a "what about this guy from NZ" or "this guy from NZ is better" post. Does it well though.

Rabada is a rank HTB too tbh. Has only had one good series against Pakistan recently outside of SA/Australia. Problem with rating NZ bowlers is they don't get invited to tour often enough sadly but nothing to write home about there either. Shami is underrated tho and Bumrah could be S tier.

i am deadly serious. anderson fans can come back when he can bowl without a duke. i was being genuine when i said earlier i initially wanted to create this thread for a laugh before realising my about to be posted troll thread was 100% correct.

i think he's an atvg and have always said that, but it gives me the absolute shits he isn't held to the same standards as everyone else because he gets to beat up the west indies and india over 4 tests in cornwall or wherever it is english people play cricket.

buuuuut sri laaaaaanka just then the poms cry, before i point to future atvg southee averaging 15 there, and he did it against much better players.

if i banged on about tim southee or chaminda vaas being so ****in great (so basically if howsie or richard posted as often as i do) i'd correctly be pointed to the gaping flaws in their careers. that's fine, they're in that tier of goodness but not greatness. vernon philander was a great example from above too.

dare suggest jimmy anderson isn't second to dale steyn because he has gaping holes in his career and poms go reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

i will throw the cw poms a bone - anderson is the unfortunate and probably unwilling mascot for the joke that is english cricket. anderson is front and centre of every 'show up on tour, bowl 130-135kph back of a length, get confused when the ball doesn't swing, blame everyone and everything but yourselves when you lose and have your media simps imply the nefarious opposition unfairly rigged conditions against you and got lucky.'

He's bowling very well right now and you can't take anything away from that TBF. But hey even Ashwin had a good tour of Australia so it truly is bizarro world right now.

the only embarrassment in this thread are all the blokes trying to defend the terrible kookaburra record of james anderson.

are we chopping careers into even smaller chunks now?
I was ignoring the bait about Anderson in your post. My comment above was to point out that you've picked a bad time to talk about 'the joke that is English cricket' being that they can't win away Tests.

they're not a joke because of their away test record, they're a joke because of how the english cricketing establishment behaves in general, but especially after a loss. there's a real mean girls element to it that you don't get from the other sides. australia and india just threaten to kill you, pakistan and nz go into civil war amongst themselves and bangladeshis just disappear after talking huge **** pre-game.

Not really sure how to reply to this, other than to note that if you want to find examples of cringeworthy comments by cricket boards/media/[ex-]players there're multitudes of options out there, it's not really just England where you can find these.

I don't think your portrayal fits the England Test team of recent times anyway - the popular media here love to moan that it's all well and good winning home Tests but really we should be stuffing our team full of >90mph bowlers and legspinners because obviously the only thing that matters is getting ready for the next Ashes tour. I can't remember Root ever complaining about pitches, cricket balls or conditions; he loves to trot out lines about 'adapting to different challenges'. Ironically the only moaning from the England team itself about pitches I can think of in recent years has been Morgan complaining about the white ball team having to play on pitches that favour bowlers rather than batsmen, but that seems contrary to your general point.

I disagree with Flem about Anderson's ability as a cricketer but Anderson has form for behaving like a little bitch in the past. On the verge of being at the wrong end of 4-0 and immediately after Kohli made a double century in 2016, Anderson started talking about how Kohli hasn't changed as a batsman and his technical deficiencies are just not exposed due to the flat Indian wickets where Kohli is able to score runs due to lack of movement.

That was extremely rich coming from a guy with his away record and was just a more sour way of saying 'see you in England' when Anderson was averaging 50+ for the then ongoing series. He should have shut up and as Ashwin put it, learned to lose gracefully.

Great player but 100% wanker.

I've been posting here for over 15 years. I do go long spells without posting in Cricket Chat (i.e. when it's autumn) but nonetheless I'm going to say this is in the worst 10 posts I've read in Cricket Chat, perhaps excluding the likes of Bun (but perhaps not).

Let's tackle the 'points'

1. Can't bowl without a Duke - just took three key top order wickets in a second innings to help us win away in India. I mean, at least try. But go beyond that. Go to Mumbai 2006. Go to the whole of the 10-11 Ashes. India 2012. The trips to the UAE. It's just a ****ing shite point, it has less going for it than my hairline.

2. This troll thread was 100% correct - Debunked over and again.

3. He gets to beat the West Indies and India over 4 tests in Cornwall - He's bowled in series wins at home to every major Test playing nation, and away to all bar Pakistan (I think). Not bad for someone who just gets to beat the Windies and India.

4. buuuuut sri laaanka they cry - No, we don't. It was brought up when it happened and then he bowled well in India. These are current events, proving you to be the stupid little boy that you are. Nothing more.

5. Some waffle about Tim Southee or Chaminda Vaas - There's a point trying to get out in the above, but ultimately it's chip on shoulder waffle.

6. English cricket is a joke - The 1990s would like its memes back. I mean Anderson is a big crank when things don't go his way, nobody disputes that. He could just smile and get on with it I guess, but then he probably wouldn't have the drive to be the most prolific seam bowler in the history of Test Cricket. Same goes for Broad. They're moody ***** because they want it so badly. It's why they've succeeded, played in winning teams that have gone round the world and won actual series of length in different countries against top-class batting line-ups. You can't debunk that.

Just for lols:
Harris - definitely better when on the field, but horrific fitness
Steyn - definitely better, not quite as long a career
Mohammad Asif - probably better, but a ****
Boult & Southee - don't think they're as good but Kiwi posters will disagree
Wagner - as above
Philander - not as good, even more conditions reliant and faked injuries to get away from roads
Johnson - not as good except for a very brief period
Broad - pretty close, hard to split the too on form

*edit*:
Cummins - probably better, still in progress
Hazlewood - had his own thread v Anderson

@FullerPilch who are the other ones (edit: that's 11, but at least half of them are objectively worse than Jimmy IMO)
Here's 14. Like I said Anderson is probably in the top 10 of this list. What's so controversial about that?
Steyn
Philander
Cummins
Ashwin
Herath
Asif
Wagner
Rabada
Harris
Southee
Broad
Jadeja
Hazelwood
Yasir
