Gideon turns a better phrase (again, my opinion) but Smith's seamless blending of classical knowledge with popular culture is quite something else.

Haigh could be writing about anything and make it fantastic. Smith doesn't write quite as brilliantly, but he has more original and interesting ideas about cricket and is great at building a convincing case for them.

yep. he writes the occasional piece that reminds you what a complete **** he would have been as a bloke. but he's the best cricket writer going around.

I dont think it was as simple as that.. I understand the Piers Morgan angle but really I just think it is the arrogance of folks like Andy Flower and their unwillingness to change what is wrong with their coaching methods that has caused the Ashes debacle and has now led to KP being dropped unceremoniously. I do think sooner or later he will get back.. That is just how things work in English Cricket..
