They've excelled at home on wickets that the likes of Tom Hartley, Ajaz and Axar Patel, Steve O'Keefe and Mitchell Santner have at times filled their boots on.

Outside India, and especially in SENA, it's not that they have a bad record, they have a non-existent one.

As an England fan, when Warne or Murali came on in England, I feared for our batters. When Ashwin or Jadeja are brought on I know we've seen off the threat of India's seamers and it's time to get the score ticking over.

Tbf I don’t think anyone is saying they’re at the same level as Warne and Murali.

Ashwin is comparable to someone like Jimmy Anderson. Jadeja is at that level as a cricketer.

Maybe, as both have home biased averages but even then Anderson fronted up plenty of times overseas - 38% of his wickets outside England v just 28% for Ashwin and 26% for Jadeja. (And I wouldn't claim Anderson is among the very best of all time).

There's no spin quota for ATGs. Warne and Murali are in that group, Ashwin and Jadeja at least a level, if not 2, below. Their batting may elevate them a little, I'll admit.

Are you trying to say Ashwin and Jadeja are in the same tier as spinners?

It's not the level of his performance for me but that his record is so skewed towards playing at home. This disqualifies him from even being in consideration for ATG status- only 80 wickets, 2 5fers and one century outside India is too big an asterisk.
Pretty much this.

I feel like allowance has been given. But particularly with the state of India’s middle order batting it should not have been impossible for one to be there based almost on his batting alone imo.
Yeah but that's more been a case of the selectors being wrong.

I don't think either are ATG bowlers but I think "oh sometimes they get dropped for each other when the conditions make the selectors not want to select two spinners" is a weak argument for that case. It's a funny point scorer in a troll fight but it's not really a serious argument.

Well getting regularly dropped itself is a sign you are not an ATG bowler.

Only reason Ashwin gets dropped is because of Jadeja batting too.

Not really. It's just lazy analysis.

@morgieb @Coronis - another example of me actually agreeing with subs but arguing with him anyway because his methodology/reasoning annoys me.
Happens to me with various posters too.

“I think your reasoning is awful and that makes no sense but I agree, x is better than y”

Its so positive yet frustrating at the same time.
