It is one that I actually remember a good deal more. It was disappointing at the time because I felt that a batsman of his calibre had the ability to take measured risk to perhaps get them to a declarable total different. This is where such a comparison is subjective and you can't really use stats alone. I just about remember the fag end of Boycott's career and remember pretty much all of Kallis's although I didn't watch him so much in say his first few years given I didn't have satellite tv. If you talk around all round batting ability, then yes I do believe that Kallis was better, but I feel that he didn't do quite so well against the toughest opponents, which is why I think that Boycott is a bit closer to him than averages do justice, because of his success rate against the best bowlers. He really was England's biggest hope with the bat in his time, because he was reliable in a way that the sublime Gower wasn't.Given the performance of the other batsmen in the side in that innings I’d say he more likely saved them a match.
136 off 217 (SR 62.7) to build to a total of just 185 for England to chase. Very unfair to blame him for that draw. And yet AB’s innings is more praised.. 109 off 169 (SR 64.5) If he attacks more and gets out when AB does they have 15 more overs to get 40 less runs.
