Virat in Australia> Younis in Australia
Virat in England < Younis in England (tho 2018 series clears)
Virat in New Zealand < Younis in New Zealand
Virat in South Africa >> Younis in South Africa
Virat in Sri Lanka < Younis in Sri Lanka
Virat in West Indies > Younis in West Indies

Virat never got to play in Pakistan or UAE so can't make that comparision.
Would argue Virat outside SA and WI isn't really superior to Younis anywhere plus Younis is one of the best bats ever to tour India and again never suffered such a prolonged stretch of inconsistent form.

Maybe because he got more opportunities to score tons but that isn't Younis' fault.

Younis had a reasonably good series against McWarne and then another quality one in the 2010s. Hard to knock him in Australia.
Younis was not bad in Australia, but Virat is clearly better there.

Virat takes 4.7 innings for a ton in aus and younis took 12 to get one, Virat before this series averaged 54 in aus with 6 tons, that's easily above Younis on output

Younis faced a much weaker attack in New Zealand and I don't think he can possibly repeat Kohli's 2018 tour. Better player of spin though.

Yeah but we have to include this poor series which means Virat and Younis are close overall. And let's not forget Younis faced a far superior attack than Virat did in his first series.

You are comparing Virat with 18 tests and more opportunities to score tons in Australia versus Younis with 6 tests. I can understand giving Kohli an edge but like I said it's marginal.

Kohli faced better attacks but overall averages 36 in NZ but again small sample.

And Kohli's 2018 tour was awesome but he clearly had issues with lateral movement in the series before and after that.

I switched my vote back to Virat. I accept that until 2019, Virat simply touched heights that Inzi never did despite a horrible decline later. And it was a considerable peak of 60 odd tests for Virat averaging near 60.

I do think I may switch this if Virat continues and the declines goes longer though.

Kohli is on a relentless mission. He won't give up until he ends up lower than Laxman and even Pujara. The most quest driven player in history.
Frankly one of the reasons I respect Imran Khan as a cricketer is that he was clear if he ever felt he couldn't perform at optimum level and avoid being a liability to the team, he would quit. Keith Miller said, “I wanted to retire when people were saying ‘why did you?‘, rather than ‘why don’t you?'” I have some respect for Rohit for stepping down mid series, assuming it was his choice.

I don't understand how a top level proud cricketer like Kohli can be on a five year decline averaging 30 for 40 tests and still feel like part of the team after consistent series failures. It should be clear after this series and getting out the same way again and again that he should just admit that he doesn't have it anymore.

Lol? Like most ATGs, Imran retired far before his team logically would have wanted him too. He could easily have averaged 35 with bat and got through a few overs of accurate meds until '95 for Pakistan and '00 for Lahore.
