Now there seem to be two websites for the Mumbai team-
  1. www.mumbaindians.com
  2. www.mumbaiindians.com
The first site is that (possibly) defunct or underdone site we mentioned in the thread. The second thread has more information, but it's totally outdated, and resembles a blog more than a website.

I believe that Tyagi will likely play ahead of Balaji whilst the latter regains full fitness,

Will the youngsters (U-19 and U-22) get a game? If Kolkata get Shoaib Akhtar and want to keep him, they'll have to make use of them, and some other reserves.
  • Ganguly
  • Gayle (OB)
  • Chopra
  • Ponting
  • Cheteshwar Pujara
  • LR Shukla (RM)
  • Brendon McCullum (WK)
  • AB Agarkar (RFM)
  • Shoaib Akhtar (RF)
  • Murali Kartik (SLA)
  • Ishant (RFM)
With Gayle as a more-than-useful spin option, they can replace Kartik with a batsman (Debabrata/Yashpal/Rohan Banerjee) or seamer Ranadeb Bose. Gayle, though, doesn't look likely (like most West Indians) to make the team, especially in the later stages, so as backup, there's Yashpal Singh, the veteran run-glutton. They have spent a lot on foreign (or out-of-catchment) batsmen, but have stuck to local bowlers predominantly. Youngsters Abdulla and Kaul have a slim chance of making the XI, except if Shoaib is dropped following the PCB ban, which, they say, doesn't apply here.

One of my favourite combinations here will be bolstered by the new recruits. Bring on the Kings!
  • Sangakkara (WK1)
  • Karan Goel
  • Yuvraj
  • Mahela
  • Uday Kaul
  • Dharmani (WK2)
  • Irfan (LFM)
  • Kyle Mills (RM)
  • Piyush Chawla (LBG)
  • Brett Lee (RF)
  • Sreesanth (RF)
Possibly James Hopes can make the XI, but Mills is a significantly better bowler. Powar will have to miss out due to suspect fielding and batting a little off-colour, clearly a far cry from the early 2000's. VRV will have to miss out, due to fielding and fitness problems. We don't know the status of the West Indians, so Sarwan sits out. The coming of Dharmani will mean that Tanmay Srivastava misses out. Neat, with at least two wicketkeepers in the XI.

Can the Royal Challengers do without Jacques Kallis? Maybe...
  • Cameron White (LB)
  • Praveen Kumar (RM)
  • Rahul Dravid
  • Virat Kohli
  • Arun Kumar
  • Mark Boucher (WK)
  • Misbah-ul-haq
  • Wasim Jaffer (backup opener)
  • Dale Steyn (RF)
  • Kumble (LBG)
  • Zaheer (LFM)
Another bloke to drop would be Zaheer, to get in one of Kallis or Bracken. Maybe drop Misbah-ul-Haq for that. With Bracken out of action until the later stage, they can play Kallis or Misbah, then Bracken. Shreevats Goswami may be used in a few matches to get in one more foreign bowler, with the foreign limit making things tough. The presence of the same old Karnataka veterans and reserves, however, doesn't make it any easier. And what would you do with Chanders?

Here's an alternative Deccan Chargers lineup. Would you swap Vaas with Afridi?
  • Afridi (LB)
  • Gilchrist (WK)
  • Gibbs
  • Laxman
  • Symonds (RM)
  • Rohit Sharma
  • Venugopal
  • Bangar (RM)
  • Ravi Teja (backup opener)
  • Ojha (SLA)
  • RP Singh (LFM)
Freak lineup, no doubt. Maybe Symonds at four, and you have a virtual T20 World XI facing the bowlers. Unfortunately, their own bowlers would have batsmen lining up to face them. Possibly a place for Kalyanakrishna (RM) or Vijay Kumar (?) in place of Ravi Teja.

Yeah, definitely another seamer in that Deccan side above, I don't think the likes of Bangar and Symonds will be effective enough in the first six overs.

Vaas in for Gibbs:

Afridi (LB)
Gilchrist (WK)
Laxman
Symonds (RM)
Rohit Sharma
Venugopal
Bangar (RM)
Ravi Teja (backup opener)
Vaas (LFM)
Ojha (SLA)
RP Singh (LFM)

If you have listed that in batting order then there is no way Ponting would be batting at 4 and McCullum batting so low

Lol...Why would you bring in Chopra before Ponting?

About Chopra before Ponting, that's keeping in mind the status of the WI players. I haven't picked a single WI player bar Gayle, with that Test series coming up. If Gayle doesn't make it, Chopra comes up to open, or he'll bat at eight or nine like other backups.

Websites have been banned from covering the IPL- including the mighty CricInfo. Bizarre.

This can't happen to something as great as the IPL. Seriously.

Let's now talk about the nearly-men for all teams. Do they stand a chance? Can they make a difference? Or just a little too much money splurged?

Chennai- They have Makhaya Ntini. He's one of the more prolific strike bowlers in action today, but will miss out due to the foreign limit on teams, and the other big-ticket foreign bowler is Muralitharan. Moreover, his record in T20 is dreadful. There are two kiwis, and at least one has to sit out- mostly Stephen Fleming. Having Mike Hussey in the team makes it a lot tougher. As for the younger recruits, there are several unknown names in the fray, and we don't know how they'd fit. There's Vidyut, a batsman who started off as a spinner and still does quite well with the ball, when called upon. There are a few others like Napoleon Einstein, Aniruddha and Mukund, but none of them may even make the Indian reserve team, let alone India.

They haven't been banned. All the BCCI wanted was for them to upload whatever images they click onto the BCCI website within 24 hours for them to use in their promotions. The media threw a tantrum on having to share what they were getting for almost free anyway. It's apparently been sorted out now.

McCullum should open, he's been the most devastating ODI batsman this past season and has taken a shine to opening. Would definitely draw more crowds than any other alternative if he gets going, which is what a lot of people seem to be forgetting in these lineups. Not necessarily the best lineups but who will draw crowds too? Afridi will definitely be getting a start and the likes of Albie Morkel may be left at the way side for the more famous.

Haha, God forbid they want to promote your league....

It happens when you stop thinking about cricket as a game/sport and instead keep thinking of it as a never ending means to make money and money and then more money. :(

They may be good businessmen but they are very bad sports administrators. I understand all sports need to make money to stay in the picture in today's world, but when you start thinking about it so much as a business and so little as a sport, it definitely takes out a lot of charm away, at least for me. :(
