Indian domestic season 2006-07

Justice is not being served. He should seriously be picked up for the Sri Lanka series, if not the WI series.
You don't know anything about him other than his FC stats; he may just be another JP Yadav for all you know. The selectors would have done their job by merely considering him; from there on, they are much better equipped to make the call. Joginder Sharma is an athletic all-rounder who can score quickly according to several reports. From rumors I've heard, the selectors are strongly considering Uthappa and Sharma. No news on Gagandeep yet and he doesn't stand a chance in these ODIs IMO.

I am glad you have such faith in our selectors, especially considering their bright history.

Especially since you know how hard it is to bowl on Indian pitches, and to average 20 over six seasons is nothing short of astounding. If there were even some sort of explanation (attitude, fitness, fieldinig), then it is understandable.

So far, he's a swing bowler who takes wickets by the handful with an S/R of 48 and can bowl all day.

Certainly not the type of person we're looking for!

So why would these be any different?
Well, Pawar's promises can be expected to be full of bull****, so to speak. These may not be fulfilled either but Niranjan Shah has elaborated detailed plans.
My gut instinct tells me they aren't lying this time. Let's see. 8-)

I would be very happy if he were to be selected for England but I won't be convinced until I've personally seen him bowl or heard someone who's watched him praise him.
I will make demands for his selection to India A, North Zone and ROI though. If only they telecasted matches ...

Now that Sehwag has scored a ton, will he get selected? Hopefully not, because Uthappa and Badrinath deserve the call-up more and Sehwag needs to be taught a lesson.

If Pathan takes more wickets tomorrow, I have a feeling they'll pick him over Joginder Sharma.

What is the standard of bowling in Indian first class cricket? Are there lots of good bowlers around the curcait or are sreesanth, munaf, zaheer and pathan the best in the country.Saw Ishant Sharma bowl for India U-19s against England last summer and he looks a really good prospect. With him, sreesanth, munaf and zaheer India at last have a decent pace attack.Have seen Badrinath first hand as he was the overseas pro of the club I play for in Glasgow.Scored about 6 hundreds but that was in the scottish league:laugh:

Pace prospects in India have definitely improved dramatically in the past three years but a few of them have been thrown to the wolves prematurely, namely VRV and RP. Munaf came from a village and his fitness is terrible. Sreesanth is a gem and Ishant is a great prospect who needs to bulk up. There are others such as Ranadeb Bose, Joginder Sharma and Gagandeep Singh, who have done well (the latter two very well) in domestic cricket but haven't really been noticed much. Among the younger ones, Abu Nechim Ahmed and Ishwar Chaudhary are two to keep an eye on 3-4 years from now. Abid Nabi was touted as the quickest bowler in India (he is athletic, well-built and apparently swings the ball as well) but he isn't taking too many wickets even in the Plate League.

As things stand, Haryana and Gujarat will be relegated to the Plate League. Meanwhile, the knockout stage will most likely feature Baroda, Karnataka, Bengal and Mumbai, with the winner of the Hyderabad-Punjab tie having a slight chance to overtake Mumbai. Provided that the selectors give recognition to Joginder Sharma in the form of a national or A-level call-up, the relegation of Haryana shouldn't hurt too much for one season.

Hmm, Pathan takes 4 for 59 in 25 overs against TN. Perhaps he will be retained ahead of Joginder Sharma ...

Whatever it takes!!!
Think they will only pick him in the later half of this series or against Sri Lanka. No point in picking him after just two games of domestic cricket. He has prove his consistency as much as anything else.

You can get detailed match reports from online editions of the following papers:
  • Uttar Pradesh v/s Andhra: Hindustan Times
  • Baroda v/s Tamil Nadu: The Hindu
  • Saurashtra v/s Karnataka: Deccan Herald, Hindustan Times
  • Mumbai v/s Maharashtra: Times Of India, Hindustan Times
  • Hyderabad v/s Punjab: Deccan Chronicle
  • Bengal v/s Rajasthan: Maybe Telegraph

Hindu is absolutely top-drawer, usually the best.
Times of India, atleast the online version is all fluff..more like a tabloid.
Indian Express is quite good.
In general though, the journalistic standards in India seem to have dropped alarmingly.

As a total outsider, is The Hindu any good?
Yes, Hindu is the best. Indian Express and DNA are the other 2 publications to supplement The Hindu. The Telegraph is useful to follow Bengal and whenever it does follow other domestic matches (usually the important ones), it is quite good as well usually.
