Indian domestic season 2006-07

No to Rawat. If Dhoni fails in test cricket, Karthik is the best choice. Karthik is a very talented wicketkeeper-batsman right now.

Rawat seems like a good prospect for the Indian team in the test matches. He hasn't done much in OD Cricket but his FC isn't bad. Already has 2 100s in his name and will hopefully get his third tomorrow. Has a strike rate of a test player, but wouldn't consider him an option for ODI. If he can get runs in the Ranji Trophy, he could give Karthik a run for his money.

BTW I'm most likely going to be back in time for the 3rd day of the first Delhi match, so I'm most likely gonna end up there.
Are you sure Rawat is even half as good as Kaarthick behind the stumps?

Highly unlikely. Karthik was good when he was India's test keeper, but he's been absolutely brilliant in what I've seen of him since then (ie A tours, domestic cricket). I dare to say he's looked world-class behind the stumps, but of course the real test comes when you have to keep to Kumble and Bhajji.

yeah, but even when he was with the national side, he looked like the only keeper since Mongia to be picking Kumble. And Bhajji is not as tough to keep to as Jumbo, IMHO.

The point is that I think for tests, the better keeper has to get in. For ODIs, the better batter.

Yeah, I wasn't implying that Karthik struggled against Kumble and Bhajji. Just saying that his exceptional glovework in domestic cricket doesn't mean too much.
He is a very good keeper and I for one won't be devastated if Dhoni doesn't succeed in the test series in SA.
I want Dhoni to succeed, but in Karthik we have the best backup keeper-batsman in the world (well, Haddin is there).

AB de Villers...

Right, but he's already in the team as a batsman so he's not exactly a backup.
Yeah but if Boucher got injuried then De Villiers would probably take over the gloves, therefore back up keeper.

Yeah. Basically, my point is that India has one of three international-class backup keepers. Karthik is a good backup to have. :)

6 wickets needed and Sri Lanka A trail by 81 runs. I hope north zone can pick up a innings victory like they should have, but I doubt it will happen.

If this Pawat guy is international class then most sides would have atleast three.

wtf ... when did I mention Rawat (Pawat?) at all? I said Karthik is one of three backup keepers who are very good (along with Haddin and ABDV)

The last thing the Indian team needs now is another so-called wicketkeeper-batsman. Rawat, Patel and Bisla may be decent wicketkeeper-batsmen, but they're not needed now.

Anyway, the Lankans are now at 259/4, with three wickets taken by Rajesh Sharma and one by Joginder Sharma. Strangely, the off-colour Nehra got 25 overs, while Joginder, one of the better bowlers in the first innings, only got eight and stock seamer Rana didn't get the ball at all. Hopefully we'll see the North Zone bowlers wrap up the innings tomorrow– one or two quick wickets will get the tail in, and they can then attack. Getting Malinda and Chamara is the key for now.

You said you will be coming to Mumbai on Thursday. Can you email me when you get there? I'm not too sure if I can give an email here; although someone already wants it.

Do you still post on the Sportnetwork forums? I've seen a few of your posts there. It doesn't seem a nice place...

North Zone have won their match by eight wickets. Gambhir and Ricky departed cheaply, but Chopra scored a 50 at a strike rate of 70 to see them home.

This was after Lanka A were all out for 426. Nehra went for over 120 runs but picked up two wickets. Joginder picked up four for the match at a not-too-healthy average, but better than Nehra, adding to his score over 70. Rajesh sharma picked up five for 110 in 41 overs. Strangely, Sachin Rana only bowled six overs in the match.

You must have mistaken me with someone else. I never used the username Dravid on any other forums.

Warnapura's resistance was about the only thing that kept Sri Lanka A in the game near the end, it was just a pity that he had nobody else to support him. That was also his highest FC score. Congratulations to North Zone on the win.
