Not against pant being picked but tbh in the end I don't have much confidence in either pant or Saha to make substantial runs. Hope Vihari is picked and they go with 6 specialist batsmen.https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/28721146/india-throw-rishabh-pant-basin-reserve
PEWS might have been right about Pant. Thinking about 2nd innings declaration runs to sway the decision is a bit far-fetched though.
Good squad. Rohit can come in for Manish Pandey and that will be the ideal squad as of now..India’s ODI squad for the SA ODIs: Shikhar Dhawan, Prithvi Shaw, Virat Kohli (Captain), KL Rahul, Manish Pandey, Shreyas Iyer, Rishabh Pant, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Navdeep Saini, Kuldeep Yadav, Shubman Gill.
Dhawan, Pandya and Bhuvi are back.
Shami, Shardul and Shivam out.
Rohit the only one still injured I think.
I think the way Pandya, Pant and Dhoni batted in WC semi was choking. They just did not up the scoring rate. I'd wager that if the stakes were not so high, they would have won the game even after being 3 for **** all. We were just chasing 240 and had 8 batsmen (including Jadeja). In 2015, we did pretty well to get to the semis unbeaten, and then Australia were always favorites. In 2017, the Bumrah no-ball and Pakistan playing the game of their lives killed us. In 2019, the **** middle-order was waiting to be exposed.
Saying that, we can't always hide behind the "oh well, we weren't favorites, we had XYZ weakness" excuse, you have to step up and play your best when it matters at some point. As long as we keep beating Pakistan in these events, I'll live with it, I guess.
