A senior BCCI official disagreed that the IPL decision was wrong. He said that the league standing fund was introduced to lend a helping arm to the franchises financially. Now that they are self-sufficient, that aid was being revoked. "There were certain concessions given when the franchises were bleeding, when they were not in a financially good state," the BCCI official said. "Those concessions were not part of the IPL contract with franchises. In 2014, the BCCI had decided to grant those concessions. And now that they are financially sound and everything is fine, those concessions have been withdrawn."

Interesting debate. Don't think the Franchises will get their way tbh, but they might get a concession out of the BCCI of some sort.

the quote you quoted makes no sense. The franchise owner says that he doesn't make money through ticketing revenues, so then how should it affect them if less people attend? Lower attendances should hurt those who rely on ticket sales, which seems to be the state association/BCCI, and so it makes sense for them to demand compensation

Was just thinking about the RSA tour of 2010 by India and how we played something very close to our best side there... Dunno if this XI ever played together but this feels like the best Indian test XI that we could have fielded ever in all my time of watching Indian cricket:

It looks good on paper. But Yuvraj and Bhajji were poor away, Sreesanth was poor except for one or two spells and Ishant was poor everywhere and every time at that time. Zaheer carried the attack. The batting line-up is awesome though.

Nah.. Ishant was doing well at least at home at that point. This was before the 2011 curse went on his bowling. And Sreesanth always had the odd hostile spell and the odd great delivery in him, which, given that attack was good enough for us. Think at home we used to play Ojha or Mishra ahead of Sreesanth with this side. I agree if they were all at their best it will be one of the best sides we can ever put together though. Sadly never happened.

Bhajji was the most boom or bust bowler I have ever seen to have played so many years of international cricket. It was like either he was taking fifers or he was 0/150 with an ER of 4.75.

That bowling attack just did barely enough to keep us at No. 1. Usually stepped up with the series on the line, but they were fairly mediocre bar Zaheer. I remember SA, SL, Australia, NZ all sending us on plenty of leatherhunts in that period. The batting lineup did most of the heavy lifting.

Nah.. never put it past the BCCI to work something out. One of the current BCCI head honchos is the son of the Home Minister. Clearances will be miraculously obtained. We just have to hope none of the players (esp. the overseas ones) test positive. That will leave a lot of egg on their faces and a lot of uncomfortable questions for everyone involved.
