Varun had a bad 2nd half of the IPL and didn't look great in the WC, Chahal was good in the IPL and absence makes the heart grow fonder.

Good that they've picked Gaikwad, Chahar and Harshal Patel. Venkatesh Iyer is a bit flavour-of-the-week for my taste, but he's going well in the SMAT too. Not sure what we're getting out of Ashwin and Bhuvi - do we really expect them to win us the next WT20?

Thakur or Jaddu would have been good fit for number 7 spot.

To be fair, they should have rested Pant even in the T20s. I am not surprised they need the rest, this is unfortunately the new reality. I just hope we hit the ground running against SA in SA.
