That is an assumption. Kenya did beat 3 test playing nations SL, BD & Zimbabwe. Who knows it could have beaten NZ as well.
I think the chances of that are/were very very slim.

Yes, chances were slim but Kenya did have some chance of winning even if it was 1%.

And it could not have done.

By having Zim and Kenya in the Super Sixes, the World Cup did kind of lose some of its credibility.

Depends who you ask.For me It did not lose any credibility for me, Infact it proved that Kenyans are here to stay and if you dont take them seriously, you will pay the price.

Kenya and Zimbabwe did not break any rule, they deserved their places in super six.

PS :- Portugal and Greece are in Euro SF, I am sure Euro has lost some credibility. For Euro to restore that credibility, we need England and France to be there. In Wimbledon Karolina Sprem, Ai Sugiyama, Florio Mayer, Ancic have reached the QF, I am sure Wimbledon has lost its credibility.

But Portugal are a good side and Greece have surprised people.

However they have got there from performances ON the field...

Are you saying Portugal and Greece are as good as England and France and they generate same interest as France and Greece ?? So basically Only in Football a country can surprise, it can not happen in Cricket, can it ??

IMO Kenya and Zimbabwe did earn their performances on the field. What can they do if England and NZ refused to play with them. If I cant say that Kenya would have won, you cant prove that NZ would have won either.

Well, 85% of it was on the field, wasn't it? They were robbed of proving their chance for the remaining 15%, you can not hold it against them, Can you ?? If I remember correctly, Kenya did win 3 matches(that is same as SA & WI) and None of us here can prove that Kenya was going to lose against NZ or otherwise.

As for zimbabwe, Zimbabwe reached in the super-six of 1999 World cup as well.

the gap between the quality of these football nations are very small indeed....infact the gap between england (or even france) and portugal is smaller than the gap between australia and the rest of the teams in ODI cricket......

Well you said Australia and 'Rest of the Teams'. I am sure Kenya is included in Rest of the Teams. If India and Sri Lanka can reach there so can Kenya.

So TEC, are you suggesting that Kenya should not have reached the Super Six despite winning 3 matches and not given a chance to perform in the 4th one ?? If the Gap is so wide and Kenya shouldn't have gone to Super six, then what is the point in having such teams in the world cup ??

its like this.....

australia

big gap

india,SA
small gap
pak,SL,NZ
small gap
england, WI

big gap

kenya,zim and bangladesh

so the gap between australia and kenya is huge compared to england/portugal

i dont mind it if kenya reach the super six by winning games not by forfeit....but what ticked me off was the fact that they reached the semi finals when they clearly didnt deserve too. and the reason why these teams are part of the WC is to give them international experience in the hope that one day the gap between kenya and australia would be as small as it is between portugal and england,as of now it is not!

Well You cant blame them for forfeit, You cant blame them for NZ's losses in Super Six either, You can not blame them for beating Zimbabwe, can you ??what could kenya have done after NZ decided to forfiet their match ??

i didnt exactly blame kenya.....i was just refuting your point that when teams like greece and portugal made it into the semis the tournament lost credibility. im quite sure that both greece and portugal will be extremely tough opponents for all any country.....can i say the same thing about kenya?

So what should be done to restore the credibility of the Cricket World Cup ?? Here are your choices :-

1. Hand over the World Cup to England ??
2. Let Top Six Teams in ODIs qualify for Super Six ??
3. If Kenya & Zimbabwe reach the Super Six, throw them out and give their spot to England and some other team despite the fact that they lost majority of their matches ??

Sorry, the example of Euro 2004 is still flawed as Greece and Portugal have earned beyond doubt their spots.

Kenya and Zimbabwe did not, no matter how many ties you try to rephrase it.
