India Doom and Gloom Thread

I thought it was a given that people on this forum don't really care about T20.

The test matches on the other hand... I cared. Including when we lost in NZ.

I want to give Kohli a big wrap here, as he steps down as T20 skipper. Bloke has occasional antics which grind gears, but so do most players and he is demonstrably passionate about the standards he expects from his side.

He's taken over a good side and made them very very durable. He's never too #tired for a tour and prioritizes test cricket. I think he's seen that leading in all three formats is wearing him down and has picked a good time to step aside. Hopefully it sees his test form return as he shoulders slightly less responsibility.

What's the reason for Shastri stepping down? Seems to have done well overall.
He's probably just tired of it now. Been at it for years and the schedule has been truly brutal.

He's done a pretty great job bevda jokes aside. It's a dodgy time for the team to be going through these changes though... the core batsmen in the long form seem to be in decline and some of the vet bowlers like Ishant may be on their way out soon. Would have been good if he'd have stayed for the next year or so because it feels like a team that's about to go through some lows.

I disagree. If the team is about to hit a lean time, an old establishment won't inspire the new breed. You need a new coach, and granted, their effect is a crapshoot, but the old message has lost its sheen. A fresh approach can reinvigorate the old guard which will take the new ones along for the ride, or it might properly allow the new players to become centre stage.

We lost a golden chance to win a test series in SA.
240 is winning total in South African conditions.

240 was a pretty chasable target, but still shocked by how easily this SA team chased it.

At least when ABDV did the business a few years ago , these things happen as ATG'S do that sort of thing, but the first hour of bowling today was bleak.

I agree with you!

SA batting is looking so GOOD and so settled against Indian bowlers now! At least 4 of the batsmen in the positions 1-5 are in-form and could score big in the 3rd Test. Basically India is more or less screwed!

As a pretty casual Indian cricket fan who follows test cricket through scores mostly (though I did see Gabba live!), I've gotta say things aren't that bad. We are not dominating like the Oz teams of old, but we are winning away more often than not. We could still win the SA series despite this horrendous performance. The only really upsetting thing is we have the players to get the job done, but our ultra conservative approach to sports administration slows our progress massively.

At least we are lucky in knowing that we have people that can come in for Pujara and Rahane and our team would most probably be better for it. I'm really excited to see Washy as a test batsman in the future. Granted my only memory of him is the Gabba test so I could be wrong here lol. Anyways I think we just need to get the team selection right. At least our situation isn't like England's where they literally think they don't have anybody in their domestic structure who is better.

Plus cricket would get boring if India just start dominating everywhere. I think this is a pretty good state. We are pretty close with the SENA teams away and we know we can win if we play hard. The games featuring us are also always competitive and make for great viewing.

Our senior players are getting older. Ashwin is 35 already. Jadeja has been injury prone. Senior batsman like Rohit, Kohli, Pujara, Rahane etc. are getting older and have probably only couple of good years left.

This team will enter into transition phase sooner than we realize at the moment. So, yes there will be some true doom and gloom along the way. Hopefully it will be transient.
