Yea but take this WI series for example. Pujara has been dropped to let Gill have a go because we know Pujara won't last till the end of this cycle, and Gill may suck at first but needs the experience, and we can win without him scoring runs.
Not true imo, Pujara getting dropped has been in the works for a while. I think the only series Pujara wouldn't have been dropped for would be if we were about to fly to Australia for the BG.

Another KO loss, this time at least we won a KO game before that, I guess. :(

Unless our ****ing batsmen learn to bowl and our ****ing bowlers learn to bat, we are not winning any LO championships.

Your top 5 where all averaging 50+ at SR's between 90 and 130, jadeja was in great allround form and 3 of your 4 frontline bowlers where in very good form (shami having arguably the greatest individual WC by a bowler, ever), even siraj was in better form then cummins and starc where. Number 8's who can bat and more bowling options in the top 7 don't suddenly win you WC's. Australia won the toss, got the better of the conditions and exploited them really well, there's nothing india can do about that.

Nah it means we will always be a side without a plan B. Those options give u flexibility and without Hardik, we simply did not have it.

You lost by 6 wickets and 42 balls. This isn't an issue of "ohh we didn't have a plan B." Ashwin at 8 or hardik giving you an extra bowling option wasn't the difference today, you just got outplayed in every department. Australia bowled and fielded better and head had a day out, it happens.

I think it definitely hurt the team but it wasn't the only problem, neither was it the biggest one imo. I'd argue this combination could've worked if we had an established, competent number 6 instead of SKY. The fact that the team management, quite rightly, thought jadeja should be promoted above him to stop a collapse spoke volumes imo. If you put someone like Raina in there, the team balance wouldn't have mattered much. Instead we had a specialist batsman who averages 25 in the format.

In hindsight, sky making those runs in the AUS series before the WC was a massive detriment.

Nah.. if u watched the game, you would see how many times we could not punch back because of the 4 #11s. I am sure if we had Ashwin and Shardul level batters at 8 and 9, the KL Virat partnership would have been very different. It's the nature of LO cricket these days. If you wanna keep going hard, you need batting depth. Else its always a one plan game. Shreyas and Gill.picked the worst time to play soft nothing shots. But that can happen to any batting side.

The fact that we started wondering if we would get to 250 and thinking about batting 50 overs out when we were 80/3 in the 11th should tell you it's the biggest reason.

Once Rohit and Kohli leave, India should start identifying batsmen who could bowl. Australia had Maxwell, Head, Mitch Marsh, Labuschagne and Smith who can all bowl a few overs and so could make do with one lesser bowler.

Yeah can't rely on 5 bowling options anymore no matter how good they are. They also can't have 4 rabbits in the side anymore they need to have a competent number 8 and obviously a violent lower order hitter because the Yadav experiment has failed miserably.

Hardik injury really hurt tbh. Indian fans on social media tried to downplay it because we were winning but even though he's not perfect, he is critical for providing that team balance.
He was averaging 40 with the bat at better than run a ball and taking wickets @26 in the 2019-2023 cycle. The fact that India could lose a player that good mid campaign and still go 10 and 0 speaks to the quality of the players available. Also, are people forgetting that the other two semi finalists in this tourney had 5 frontliners + makram (who barely bowled despite it being a spin friendly WC) and 4 frontliners + 10 overs between Phillips junk part time, ravindras 2 boundary balls an over and Mitchell. You don't need strong 6th and 7th options to be a great side.

India had 3 frontliners in excellent form, above par campaigns from all of their top 5 and a good allround tournament from jadeja.

A lot of Indian fans like to troll Dhoni , but one of the master strokes of his captaincy was getting the most out of 6th/7th bowling options ..

It really made a big difference, often Dhoni would encourage Sehwag, Raina , Tendulkar etc to bowl and he gave maximum confidence to Yuvraj Singh aswell ..
Dhoni understood limited overs cricket a lot better than people give him credit for and he can point to the trophies he won as proof.

I am confident Jaiswal and Ruturaj can to an extent fill the void that will soon be left by Rohit, Kohli and Rahul. Jaiswal, Ruturaj, Gill, Iyer, Pant, Pandya is a decent top 6. 7-9 should be all-rounders. Jaiswal and Iyer should also consistently bowl an over or two every match going forward.

Of all the things I criticize Dhoni for, limited overs captaincy is not it. He absolutely knew how to maximise bowling resources.

That being said, this was more of a batting **** up.

Draft them in asap. Rinku is clutch as **** in 5/6. Get him in for SKY. We also need to start building reserve quicks for our main guys.

Like Chin said, I am losing faith on Kuldeep's ability in crucial matches. Always buckles under pressure. Did not even look like taking a wicket yesterday and zero pressure imposed on the batsmen. I will prefer a batting spinner ahead of him.
